POSITION SUMMARY:

The Department of Internal Medicine at University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine is seeking a full-time Open Rank Board-certified or Board-eligible Gastroenterologist to serve as Director of the Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition. The USF Gastroenterology Clinic covers a large population - extending from Ocala to the North, Naples to the South, and East-to-West coasts of Florida. The Division Director would be accountable for all operations across 3 cost centers (General GI, Joy McCann Culverhouse Center for Swallowing Disorders, and the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center) and subspecialities including advanced endoscopy and GI motility. The ideal candidate will have a track record of clinical expertise in gastroenterology and academic accomplishments to facilitate delivering exceptional clinical care, research and education.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

CLINICAL:


  • Lead improvement in clinical operations, especially patient access, referring physician satisfaction, innovation in use of technology for patient care, contribution to value-based care through facilitating hospital throughput and cancer screenings, and expansion of the breadth and depth of top-rated gastroenterology services at USF and TGH sites.
  • Become a liaison and change manager to facilitate engagement of faculty in hospital quality and patient safety initiatives and outpatient operations and value-based care initiatives.
  • Practice in the USF outpatient clinic, attend on inpatient consults, and perform endoscopic procedures at Tampa General Hospital and the Ambulatory Services Center (ASC).

RESEARCH:


  • Participate in research within the Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition (Gastroenterology), including grant writing, soliciting industry-sponsored trials, and other scholarly activities.
  • Develop and maintain a competitively funded research program and participate in interdisciplinary research in Gastroenterology subspecialties.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. For Associate or Full Professor- proven creative works, professional writing or research in professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.

Must have a current, unrestricted medical license in the State of Florida or be eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Florida. Candidates must be Board Certified in Internal Medicine/Gastroenterology.

PREFERRED:

Minimum of 5 years in Gastroenterology subspecialties of Advanced Endoscopy, Advanced Esophageal, Inflammatory Bowel Disease or microbiome. A history of teaching at the collegiate or graduate level or teaching medical students and clinical house staff is desirable. A substantial record of published peer-reviewed manuscripts. Experience in Translational studies and/or gastroenterology studies focused on causes, treatment, and prevention of gastroenterological disorders. NIH funding is equivalent to 1 R01 grant or a robust clinical research program. Publishes meritorious primary research in prominent journals. History of building collaborative and interdisciplinary teams. Track record of generating patents.
