Job Description:
We are seeking a Data Engineering Manager to join our innovative engineering team in a hybrid role based in Minneapolis, MN. As a Data Engineering Manager, you will be at the forefront of planning and executing strategies that improve Datasite's data architecture, ELT/ETL processes, and data standards. You will lead a team that is focused on building reliable, scalable, and high-quality data solutions while collaborating across the organization to unlock the full potential of our data.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Work closely with senior leadership and product teams to define the roadmap for new data initiatives and ensure organizational architecture standards align with delivering high-quality data.
Translate Business to Tech: Convert business requirements into actionable technical requirements that shape the development of scalable and reliable data pipelines.
Data Architecture & Standards: Drive initiatives that enhance and harden data architecture and standards to improve the quality, validity, and reliability of our data.
Source Discovery & Integration: Lead efforts to discover new data sources and integrate them into the platform, expanding the data capabilities across the organization.
Improve Data Observability: Propose and implement solutions that improve data observability, enabling better visibility and tracking of data processes across the organization.
Technical Documentation: Write and maintain clear documentation that communicates technical solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Innovate with Tools & Technologies: Continuously explore and recommend new tools and technologies to optimize and enhance the data platform, staying ahead of the curve.
Ownership of Roadmap: Fully own the team's technical roadmap, balancing technical requirements with business priorities, and manage direct reports to ensure project success.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent industry experience in Data Engineering, Data Architecture, or a related field, with 6+ years of experience. Expert proficiency with data warehouses, architecture, and lifecycle management.
Leadership: Proven experience as a team lead or manager, having led major technical initiatives, including data migrations, adoptions, or implementations.
Technical Expertise:
Strong familiarity with column-based storage systems like Snowflake.
Exposure to non-relational data, data structures, and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB.
Proficiency with multiple ELT/ETL tools and experience in Python programming.
Experience in data modeling and data governance is a plus.
Knowledge of BI tools is a bonus.
Scalability & Compute Needs: Experience accurately predicting scaling requirements and compute needs for large-scale data environments.
Data Lakes & AI/ML: Comfortable working with data lakes and integrating data stored across lakes, warehouses, and AI/ML processes.
