A Day in the Life
In this exciting role as a Sr Engineering Manager, you will have the responsibility for managing a team of Advanced Manufacturing Engineers (AME) and Process Development Technicians involved in development and commercialization of the new products for the Neuromodulation and Pelvic Health OUs. You will be responsible to drive development of robust and highly stable processes while working very closely with the cross functional teams/Manufacturing sites and building a team of highly technical and competitive process development engineers. In addition, you will provide leadership and governance for Margin Expansion portfolio execution for the Neuromodulation and Pelvic Health OUs to meet the cost down targets set by the Enterprise.

Products in the Neuromodulation and Pelvic Health space include implantable and external neurostimulators, implantable infusion pumps, leads, catheters, and associated device recharge and programming instruments.

The ideal candidate has hands on experience in early phase concept/prototyping, process development for implantable devices and manufacturing technology development and implementation. Strong program management experience with demonstrated prior success in leading projects which include matrixed team members from R&D, Quality and Regulatory, among others. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, program management skills, business acumen, and domain knowledge in medical device product development and operations. Strong relationship skills are a must, as is excellent verbal and written communication.

This is a hybrid position with the expectation of being onsite at Medtronic's Rice Creek facility 3+ days/week.
A day in life
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • Provide direct supervision, coaching and mentoring to the AME engineers/technicians in your team. This includes work direction, priority and objective setting, development opportunities, training, and performance management.

  • Manages activities to assure programs are appropriately resourced and ensure continuous improvement in technical capability, process, and compliance.

  • Lead DRM strategy and implementation to enable Design for Manufacturability and Robust design of new products.

  • Ensure down-stream operations implications are considered early in the product development process. Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to ask critical questions without being the technical subject matter expert.

  • Provide leadership to technical scouting, development and maintenance of Manufacturing Technology roadmaps.

  • Work with Manufacturing sites to implement new technologies and processes in production.

  • Work with OU/GOSC cross functional partners and PMO to provide leadership for governance and execution of the Margin expansion portfolio execution for Neuromodulation and Pelvic Health.

  • Facilitate Margin expansion ideation sessions and coach PMs in developing business cases for top opportunities.

  • Work with NPI teams and PLM org to identify opportunities to close product road map/continuity gaps while reducing costs.

  • Champion and implement DfV in NPI programs.

Must Have (Minimum Requirements):


  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or Technical field and minimum of 7 years of experience in Medical device or related field with 5+ years of managerial experience

  • or advance degree with minimum of 5 yeas of experience in Medical device or related field with 5+ years of managerial experience

  • Program Management experience

Nice to Have:


  • Hands on process development experience (IQ/OQ/PQ, TMV, Process Characterization DOEs etc.)

  • Leadership of Manufacturing Technology development

  • Working with Manufacturing sites on NPI Design transfer

  • Experience with Active Implantable Devices and Pumps and therapies

  • NPI experience taking products from concept through launch

  • DRM, DFSS or Six Sigma Black Belt Certified

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$160,000.00 - $240,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
