What to expect:
Reporting to the Benefits Director, the Benefits Manager is responsible for managing the administration of the company's benefit programs with a focus on continuous improvement of benefit plans, policies and processes. This includes leading large scale change management initiatives. Must be experienced in both health & welfare and retirement (defined benefit, defined contribution and nonqualified plans) benefit programs. The Benefits Manager is actively involved in developing benefit program strategy and associated plan designs and processes in support of company and Human Resources objectives. This position has direct reports and will engage in talent management and workflow planning activities for a team of benefit professionals.
Manage the administration of health & welfare and retirement programs; assess the effectiveness of programs in meeting human resource and company strategic objectives; recommend improvements to programs and processes as appropriate; oversee implementation of changes
Manage team of direct reports; provide coaching and guidance with respect to benefits department projects and day-to-day activities, performance management and developmental opportunities.
Serve as technical resource to the benefits team and HR business partners to drive consistent and effective administration and communication of benefit programs and processes.
Collaborate with corporate communications and other stakeholders to create and update various benefits communications (benefits guide, newsletters, articles, web content, educational materials, benefit statements, electronic signage, etc.) to convey benefit plan details and better engage employee population.
Maintain close working relationships with key internal (finance, accounting, internal audit, legal, payroll, divisional HR) and external (consultants, vendors, auditors) stakeholders.
Manage benefit vendor relationships to maintain accountability; ensuring programs are delivered in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
Plan and coordinate wellbeing program communications and initiatives
Maintain plan documents and summary plan descriptions.
Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state regulations governing benefit plans (ACA, COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA, etc.); lead benefit plan compliance activities (government filings, SARs, AFNs, ACA reporting, etc.) and support actuarial valuation process
Handle annual audits and associated SOX reporting for benefit plans; manage team workflow with respect to audit activities
Assist with M&A and divestiture related due diligence and integration activities
Remain current in benefit program trends, government legislation and court decisions related to areas of responsibility
Support research, benchmarking, design and implementation of new programs to enhance employee value proposition and experience
Requirements:
Based in Raleigh, NC corporate headquarters (4 days per week in office; one day remote)
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business or related field; advanced degree and/or industry certifications (CEBS, SPHR, SHRM-SCP) preferred
6+ years of progressively responsible work experience in benefits; minimum one year experience managing direct reports
Workday HCM experience preferred
Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing benefit plans (ACA, COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA, etc.)
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to effectively collaborate and interact with internal and external stakeholders, vendors and consultants
Must be proactive, self-directed and highly organized; capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously while quickly adapting to changing priorities; lead through change
Possess superior analytical, organization and problem-solving skills; able to solve complex issues and interpret complicated legal documents
Able to lead and influence others
Proficient with MS Office products; emphasis on advanced Excel skills
