Background



Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) provides expertise and services that support the Inclusive Excellence mission of Ohio State. The Grad and Professional Inclusive Excellence Specialist is responsible for delivering inclusion-centered career success and professional development opportunities, programming, and services to graduate and professional students.




Grad and Prof Inclusive Excellence Academic Program Specialist




Function Statement: Plans, delivers, and manages graduate and professional student recruitment, retention programming and services, and assists in the planning and execution of ODI signature events, career success initiatives, and programming in alignment with OSU/ODI mission and goals.



Detailed Job Description: Leads the design, development, and delivery of graduate and professional student recruitment, retention, and academic success programs, initiatives, and events that advance the university inclusive excellence mission and a culture of inclusion. Builds and advances relationships with academic programs at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-serving institutions, tribal colleges, and other institutions of higher education. Stays abreast of best practices and key trends in graduate and professional student recruitment and retention practices and serve as an expert for the other teams in ODI and graduate programs across the university. Responsible for the development and implementation of signature programs, which may include the annual Graduate & Professional Student Orientation & Networking Reception, Graduate and Professional Student Recruitment Initiative, Preparing for the Professoriate and Beyond, Dissertation Boot Camp, McNair Scholars Summer Visit, and graduate & professional focused development initiatives. Works closely with the Graduate School and university graduate chairs and professional school contacts to screen prospective student candidates for recruitment. Manages online graduate and professional student newsletter, disseminates professional development opportunities to graduate and professional students. In consultation with the unit Director, creates and implements a comprehensive recruitment and assessment plan for annual programs and services. Serves on ODI and university-wide committees. Prepares budgets, hires and supervises student staff, such as undergraduate work students and graduate assistants. Oversees and is responsible for the development and management of social media platforms. Supports additional departmental programming initiatives, including Career Services and Inclusive Excellence Learning and Development. Provides support and direction for a wide range of unit initiatives and serves as an active ambassador for the university community, while advocating and championing inclusive excellence practices.



Position Details:



  • May be eligible for a hybrid schedule (mix of in-person and virtual).

  • Reports to the Unit Director.




Required Minimum Education


Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of DEI and/or higher education administration education and experience.




Desired Education


Master's Level Degree or equivalent combination of DEI and/or higher education administration education and experience.




Required Qualifications



  • 4 years of relevant experience required



  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence.

  • Ability to efficiently manage projects, prepare and analyze surveys and event solicitations.

  • Experience in creating and delivering inclusive programming and services to graduate and professional students, preferably at a large institution of higher education.

  • Ability to effectively delegate work tasks, supervise student employees, build positive relationships with teams, and provide guidance and coaching.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently in an energetic and fast-paced environment, generate data, and cultivate and sustain meaningful partnerships.

  • Serve as a trusted and effective member of the team.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.




Desired Qualifications:



  • Proficiency in event management software (e.g., CVENT, Qualtrics, Zoom).

  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., InDesign, CANVA).

  • Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Suite platforms.

  • 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred.

Additional Information:


The Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $51,000 - $58,700. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
