A comprehensive community college, we offer instruction in Basic Studies to include awarding a high school diploma, GED preparation, and English to Speakers of Other Languages; academic transfer and workforce education degrees and certificates; four applied baccalaureate degrees, and community education in our two-county region. Olympic College's Music program offers private individual instruction in a variety of instruments as well as for vocal. The Music program offers space for individualized instruction, as well as for students to practice and perform. Faculty provide lessons, where possible, utilizing distance learning through Zoom and/or Skype. Adjunct faculty are employed in the areas of brass instruments wind/reed instruments, guitar, bass guitar, strings, piano, and voice. As the college continues to expand our learning options for all, instruction will be provided through a variety of modalities, from Canvas, Zoom, Skype other appropriate online resources and through face-to-face instruction. Olympic College is recruiting an adjunct faculty to join the faculty and staff team in the Social Sciences & Humanities Division. The position will be part-time Private Music adjunct faculty, teaching primarily private lessons on trumpet.Essential Functions

Teach evening, distance, and in-person classes on the Bremerton and other campuses when requested;Provide quality teaching, including related preparation, grading, and record keeping;Provide class syllabi/guidelines to students enrolled in classes by the first day of classes and to the division office as requested;Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments in learning environments and activities to meet those needs;Punctually communicate with students, faculty, staff and administrators;Hold regularly scheduled private lessons for students for the schedule span of time enrolled (1/2 credit = ½ hr/week; 1 credit = 1 hr/week)Perform other related duties as assigned and/or requiredSuccessful Applicants WillDeliver instructional course content with excitement and enthusiasm;Use a variety of methods and modes of instruction to ensure student success;Demonstrate a commitment to teaching students with little or no background, as well as the experienced student desiring to further their career;Utilize a variety of assessment activities to evaluate student learning and achievement; Demonstrate success working with individuals representing a wide range of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds as well as military veterans; Support diversity in higher education through application of culturally responsive teaching pedagogies and the use of diverse resources/voice, as well as by contributing through actions;Foster a climate of multi-cultural understanding and appreciation;Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the Olympic College mission, diversity, and a learning-centered climate;Demonstrate success incorporating accessibility and special needs accommodations via course materials and classroom activities;Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in the classroom and with other professionals to maintain effective and positive working relationships;Collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, and students as part of an educational team;Incorporate the use of technology in the delivery of course content and services as appropriate, including use of the College-approved learning management systemUphold Olympic College's values and ethics necessary to maintain a positive climate. Bachelor's degree or equivalentExperience in teaching or mentoring music students - specifically in area of desired instructionDesired QualificationsMaster Degree in area of instructionTwo year teaching experience of private lessons - at the audit level.Ability to play and teach in both classical and jazz stylesAbility to teach lessons on other brass instruments (high brass and/or low brass) Additional Information


Terms of EmploymentPlease note that we are unable to sponsor visas for this position. Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered.Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within 30 days of their employment.This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will be commensurate with educational background and experience. The salary listed is a range based on per quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. Evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite Olympic College campuses, and off-campus assignments including travel to clinical sites may be a part of the instructional load.Adjunct positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Individuals who apply to the applicant pool are considered active for a period of 12 months from the application date and may be contacted when vacancies occur. Applying does not guarantee that a position will be available or offered.Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon their initial hire, Adjunct faculty must work 50 percent of a full-time load for two consecutive quarters to become eligible. Additional hours earned at other SBCTC colleges may count towards this requirement.
