Position Overview: The Department of Physics in the College of Arts and Science at The Ohio State University is seeking a Research Technician 2 to join our team. In this role, you will assist with particle astrophysics research through computer programming and data analysis. You will work closely with faculty to document and present findings. This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a collaborative and innovative research environment. This is a term position with the possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funds.
Key Responsibilities:
Computer Programming (40%): Assist laboratory personnel in the execution and documentation of experiments, including developing and maintaining software related to astrophysics research using tools such as Python, Keras, and TensorFlow.
Data Analysis (40%): Prepare and extract samples for laboratory analysis, and perform comprehensive analysis on particle astrophysics data, employing techniques like CNNs and Vision Transformers.
Research Presentation (20%): Identify themes and write summaries of research findings, collaborate with faculty to present research outcomes at meetings and conferences and assist in writing research papers.
Minimum Education Required:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Required Qualifications:
At least 1 year of experience in Python coding, specifically with Keras/TensorFlow
Experience with Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and/or Vision Transformers
Desired Qualifications:
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
Effective communication and teamwork skills
Salary Range: $15.70-$20.67
