Position Summary
Design, develop, and maintain complex enterprise network and computer systems. Provide advanced levels of technical networking direction and expertise in support of the College's network infrastructure, systems resources, and data center resources.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Recommend, implement, and manage changes to ensure the stable performance, integrity, and security of the College network infrastructure
Recommend, implement, and manage network infrastructure modifications required to meet the changing needs of the College
Collaborate in the design, management, and support of the virtualized server data center environment and associated storage area network (SAN) environment
Collaborate, design, and optimize advanced network technical architectures including but not limited to software, switches, VLAN, LAN, WAN, firewalls, and routers
Setup and manage DNS, NIS, NFS, DHCP, and other network infrastructure services
Manage firewalls, respond to security alerts, and provide daily maintenance of NAT, VPN, PAT, and Protocol filtering
Participates in the diagnosis, isolation, and resolution of network problems. Identifies and documents the root cause. Proactively identify potential issues in the production environment and help recommend potential solutions.
Provide timely communication updates of network activity with IT staff and the college community
Provide assistance and application training to IT staff concerning the network infrastructure and other related technology applications
Manage network-oriented projects through coordination with the Client Technology Services and DevOps departments
As required, manage and administer key networking platforms such as messaging and collaboration systems (i.e. Exchange, Sharepoint), virtualization systems (i.e. VMware, Citrix) and other systems as directed by Director of Infrastructure and Security
Manage and maintain VM and file backups
As required, manage, monitor, and administer the data center environment including server operating systems, environmental monitoring equipment, physical cabling plant and data storage systems
Additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Computer Information Systems or related fields; or equivalent combination of college-level coursework, technical certification(s) and/or specialized training required; or equivalent job-related experience
Five years of network infrastructure technology experience required, emphasizing the following areas:
Supporting a medium to large size network environment
Network protocols/services (e.g., TCP/IP, 10/40 gigabit Ethernet, DNS, NAT, PAT, VPN, protocol filtering, 802.1X and AppleTalk)
Strong understanding of network infrastructures (LAN, WAN, routers, switches, hubs, and premise wiring)
Strong understanding of security services (e.g., Active Directory, Kerberos, PKI, Proxy Server, firewalls, IME/IOP, NAC, and Security Suites)
Experience with SNMP and network monitoring tools
Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication
Demonstrate ability to support end users
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex problems
Desired Qualifications:
Windows versions 10+, Windows Server 2019+, Macintosh 10.x, Linux. Macintosh experience on a Windows network strongly preferred
Working knowledge of scripting and Microsoft Office products
Experience with firewalls and daily maintenance of NAT, VPN, PAT, and Protocol filtering
Support and maintenance of a VMware ESX 7.Xi or later server virtualization farm
Bandwidth shaping
Wireless system management, implementation monitoring, and maintenance
SQL clustering
Enterprise backups and archrival administration
