Job Description Summary
We are a hiring a Research Technologist to support our human immunology assays at the Immune Health Initiative. The candidate will be responsible for setting up and performing flow and mass cytometry experiments on human biospecimens. Work will also include maintaining reagent inventory, QC and data analysis. The candidate will work closely with senior scientists in the group. Ability to follow established standard procedures, attention to detail, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability and eagerness to work in a team setting is required.
Job Description
The candidate will be responsible for the tasks listed below:
Immunological assay execution and development
Process precious, limited human biospecimens, including blood and tissue, for a variety of clinical studies being conducted throughout the Penn community.
Prepare samples for fluorescent and mass cytometry experiments. Acquire data and assist in quality control data analysis.
Assist with daily instrument calibration to optimize instrument performance and ensure consistency in data quality over time.
Test and titrate antibodies and other reagents for optimal concentrations and function.
Develop, learn, and execute new assays as necessary.
Design and troubleshoot experiments, recognize and identify potential variables that can impact sample viability, quality, or other reagent performance.
Data input and management
Record daily experimental procedures. Ensure samples are accurately tracked throughout each step, up to and including data generation, analysis and storage using the lab sample and file inventory databases.
Maintain and update all laboratory protocols; make changes as necessary and publish to laboratory database.
Maintain a detailed inventory of reagents.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree in biology, biochemistry, or related field and 0-1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Laboratory experience with basic techniques is preferred but not required. Additionally, attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment is required.
