Ranked among the finest cancer programs in the country, the Section is comprised of nationally and internationally known faculty with expertise in all major types of malignancies, blood disorders, and experimental therapies.



Job Summary

We are hiring an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for the Lymphoma Clinic.


The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will provide comprehensive care to Lymphoma patients within the Section of Hematology/Oncology in The Department of Medicine. The APP will focus on patients receiving care in the outpatient setting (IV Therapy or Clinic) within a designated hematology program. The APP will assess and manage side effects from chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy. The APP will work collaboratively with hematology/oncology attendings, fellows, nurses as well as other Advanced Practitioners and be proficient to independently recognize signs and symptoms of disease progression or response to therapy. Ideal candidate will be familiar with the treatment of hematalogic malignancy with standard of care regimens as well as on clinical trials.



Responsibilities



  • Under the direction of a faculty sponsor and in collaboration with the program support team, the APP coordinates the care of patients through the disease process and acts as a clinical liaison for patients, across medical services and clinical departments. The APP evaluates and manages patient symptoms before during and after treatment.


  • The Advanced Practice Provider will provide comprehensive care to patients for the Section of Hematology/Oncology in The Department of Medicine.


  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, using advanced clinical skills to manage a caseload of patients.


  • Assess, diagnose, initiate delegated medical treatments, perform independent interventions and evaluate care.


  • Provide a model of care that is shaped by theory, expanded by science, research and reflective practice and is identified by a holistic and comprehensive approach to the patients.


  • Staff half-day or full-day clinics as assigned; attend multidisciplinary conferences of assigned disease area.


  • Manage the care of patients, including assessment, diagnosis and treatment for assigned patients.


  • Document history and physical examination and changes in management according to government guidelines in the outpatient clinic at University of Chicago.


  • Coordinate diagnostic tests, follow-up on tests, and other patient care issues.


  • As part of duties, perform reporting for government agencies, chart review, refill prescriptions, and answer phone calls, emails and 'My Chart' messages for patients for whom the APP is involved with longitudinal care.


  • Attend weekly conferences and yearly continuing education courses to keep abreast of hematology/oncology patient management.


  • Perform bone marrow biopsies as well as diagnostic and therapeutic lumbar punctures (intrathecal chemotherapy administration).


  • Depending on program needs; APP will provide one day of coverage per week in the IV Therapy infusion area to manage acute clinical issues such as infusion reactions and patients with fevers or other illness.


  • Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.


  • Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient's plan of care.


  • Performs other related work as needed.





Minimum Qualifications




Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college.



Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.



Certifications:

Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration required. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO). - State of Illinois

  • Ability to conduct physical examinations and health assessments.


  • Ability to interview and obtain medical information.


  • Willingness to enter into written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire.


  • Once licensed and as needed, willingness to apply for a mid-level practitioner controlled substance license and DEA number.


  • Willingness to be privileged and credentialed through UCM Medical Staff Office prior to start date.


  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.


  • Strong organizational skills.


  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skills.


  • Proficiency in the use of computers.
