Summary:

Engadget is hiring a Senior Writer to expand our buying advice coverage of software and services, including VPNs. For this newly created position, we're looking for an enterprising journalist who can serve as our resident category expert, with a laser focus on reviews, best lists and supporting how-to/explainer stories for key online consumer SaaS products, including (but not limited to) VPNs, password managers, anti-virus, web hosting and more. We're looking for someone who understands these spaces well enough to distill them into digestible terms for a broad audience.

Responsibilities:


  • Serve as Engadget's resident expert on VPNs, password managers and related cybersecurity issues, writing a mix of original reviews and best lists, as well as some explainers.

  • Create, execute and document testing methodologies for these categories. For instance, for VPNs, we're looking for a revamped approach to speed tests and DNS leak testing, ensuring that our recommendations are as detailed and authoritative as possible.

  • Initiate periodic (weekly, biweekly, monthly) updates of the reviews and best lists, in consultation with your editor and the SEO team.

  • Be available to consult with colleagues on related digital security and privacy issues, as they are covered by the news team in real-time.

Requirements:


  • A history, familiarity with and sincere interest in VPN technologies and the current leading vendors in the space.

  • An encyclopedic knowledge of the privacy and security technologies and issues related to usage of VPNs, password managers and anti-malware solutions.

  • Experience covering consumer networking technology or a similar field.

  • Proven ability to produce clean, well-researched copy, and to sometimes juggle multiple deadlines.

  • Works well with others, and is receptive to feedback.

  • Experience and comfort writing and editing stories to search optimization.

The compensation for this position ranges from $72,750.00 - $151,250.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
