Job Description:

The Department of Facilities Management is responsible for meeting the University's ever-changing needs. Located within Facilities Management, Landscape Services maintains over 3,000 acres of campus lawns and grounds. The supervisor of Landscape Services will work in all aspects of landscape construction and maintenance. 


Job Duties:



  • Performs technical and semi-technical duties required in the propagation of plant materials.

  • Organizes, coordinates, and directs landscape crews. Performs the necessary tasks to accomplish the goals set forth by the Landscape Department. 

  • Coordinates the application of fertilizers and pesticides safely and properly. 

  • Directs and supervises the safe and proper use of equipment and materials, including heavy equipment.

  • Assists in the design and layout of floral and plant beds, and the selection of appropriate materials, plants, and flowers.

  • Coordinates and directs the work of other Facilities Management crews working on landscape projects. 

  • Assigns gardening zones to landscape crew to ensure areas are adequately staffed and maintained

  • Assists in scheduling and coordinating planting timelines while ensuring adherence to proper care guidelines.

  • Prepares and approves employee time cards and prepares routine reports.

  • Oversees performance management of team members including training, developing, and evaluating.

  • Processes requisitions to stock and maintain supply inventory.

  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.


SCHEDULE NOTE:



  • The winter schedule will begin 09/23/2024, and working hours will be Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM.

  • The summer schedule will begin the day following Memorial Day and will be Monday - Friday, 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM.

  • Work times may shift due to weather and operational needs, including required overtime, and you may be designated as an essential position during emergency closures. 

Required Education: None.


Required Experience:



  • 36 months experience in landscape and grounds management.



Skills:




  • Working knowledge of plants and flowers native to Oklahoma weather conditions.



  • Working knowledge of where to plant trees, flowers, and plants.



  • Ability to use computer and software to design floral and plant bed layout.



  • Highly organized and ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.



  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.



  • Strong initiative to solve problems.



  • Ability to supervise staff and communicate directions and expectations effectively.



  • Ability to supervise.



Certifications:



  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire date


Physical Requirements:



  • Exposure to physically demanding tasks, such as heavy lifting of 50 lbs. or more.

  • Exposure to extreme temperature changes, fertilizers and pesticides.

  • May be designated as an "essential position" during emergency closures.

  • May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.


Department Preferences:




  • 12 months of supervisory or lead experience.




Supervision: Primary Supervisor.
