Overview

Intelligent Waves is seeking a skilled Network Operations Center Engineer to monitor and maintain mission-critical systems, enterprise services, and networking infrastructure across multiple sites and networks. This role involves serving as Tier III technical support, resolving escalated issues, and collaborating with engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve system-wide problems.

Responsibilities include the operation and maintenance of Windows and Linux systems, ensuring security and availability through configuration, patching, and STIG compliance. Additional duties include managing network infrastructure, conducting firewall changes, updating DNS entries, monitoring systems in real-time, and documenting all incidents and troubleshooting procedures. The ideal candidate will have experience in supporting complex IT environments and a proactive approach to problem-solving and operational excellence.

Location: This position is based in Reston, VA

Travel: None

Schedule: As a Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer, you will collaborate with a dedicated team to provide essential coverage and support. This position requires flexibility to work one of the following shifts:

  • Friday through Monday, 2:00 PM to 12:00 AM
  • Thursday through Monday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Shift schedules are designed to ensure consistent support for mission-critical operations.


Security Clearance:
Must be a United States Citizen and hold a current TS-SCI security clearance.

Employees are required to follow all company and customer site COVID-19 protocols.



Responsibilities

  • System Monitoring and Maintenance: Ensure the reliability and performance of mission-critical systems, enterprise services, and networking infrastructure across multiple physical locations and networks.

  • Tier III Technical Support: Serve as the escalation point for resolving complex technical issues in operational network environments.

  • Problem Management: Track and resolve system-wide issues by collaborating with engineering support teams, including network and systems engineering, catapult operations, and desktop engineering.

  • System Operations and Security: Operate and maintain critical Windows and Linux systems, ensuring operational availability and strong security postures through configuration, patching, and STIG compliance.

  • Network and Firewall Management: Conduct firewall changes, troubleshoot and manage F5 iRules, update and manage DNS entries, and monitor port security and network systems using tools like SolarWinds.

  • Incident Logging and IT Support: Log all incidents, requests, and tasks in BMC Remedy, apply diagnostic techniques to resolve infrastructure issues, maintain comprehensive documentation, and support office moves and equipment replacements as needed.



Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience with IT systems administration
  • Experience developing and enhancing the IT troubleshooting process
  • Experience with DoD IT security requirements, including installing patches and conducting STIG reviews such as YUM, Puppet, SCCM, or WSUS
  • Ability to analyze and refine standard operating procedures
  • Ability to obtain a Security+ CE, SSCP, CCNA Security, or GSEC Certification within 30 days of start date

Desired:

  • Proven experience with systems and service monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Splunk) and basic network administration, including port security, firewall management, F5 support, and DNS configuration.
  • Expertise in managing enterprise applications such as Microsoft Exchange, Jira, Microsoft SCCM/MECM, and Skype for Business, as well as utilizing BMC Remedy for ticket tracking and queue maintenance.
  • Strong background in virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, VDI) and managing Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Knowledge of vulnerability and STIG scanning tools (e.g., Nessus, SCC Tool, ACAS, Tanium).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Education: Bachelors degree in Information Systems or a related field.
