Job Description:

The Gordon-Browne Proton Therapy Center (GBPTC) is a cutting-edge machine utilizing an ultra compact proton therapy unit installed within an existing high-rise building. The continued success of the department requires a motivated engineer capable of working in a patient care critical environment. Linear Accelerator Engineers share responsibility of operating the proton therapy system, are the first responders to machine interruptions, and communicate directly with clinical staff. Work can be very hands on, requiring both mechanical and electrical aptitude.



PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



• Participate in operation, engineering coverage, and oversight of proton therapy system to deliver 20+ patient treatments per day with uptime exceeding 95%.


• Publish daily engineering updates to Radiation Oncology proton clinical and technical staff


• Communicate any system operational concerns in a timely way to appropriate staff and follows up with resolution


• Participate in preventive maintenance, upgrades, and repairs


• Adhere to processes defined by the quality management system


• Help in the ordering and maintenance of an adequate inventory of parts, tools, and supplies.


• Help to improve documentation


• May be involved in upgrades and other projects related to clinical innovation and research within the Department of Radiation Oncology



SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED



• Ability to work independently and oversee contractors.


• Ability to read and understand schematics and mechanical drawings.


• A detailed knowledge of instruments and test equipment



WORKING CONDITIONS



Most work is performed in a control room, office, treatment room, laboratory environment, or machine shop. Night and Weekend work is often required. Will occasionally have patient contact. Will occasionally be required to work in a radiation environment which is protected and monitored according to federal and state regulations. Will be required to handle or manage the handling of some radioactive materials. Short notice schedule changes may also be required.


Must be able to climb ladders as necessary and to carry equipment up to 35 pounds.



Qualifications

EDUCATION



  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Sufficient equivalent experience or applicable clinical engineering experience may be accepted in lieu of educational requirement


EXPERIENCE



• Must have 2+ years of experience operating the ProTom Radiance 330 proton therapy system or similar system.


• Experience working with high power systems
