Job Description Summary:

What you need to know about the role:
We're looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join PayPal Shopping's Core Architecture team working on Notifications. This is a primarily backend role. You will be responsible for the evolution of PayPal Shopping and Rewards notification-focused engineering services and platforms.


Meet our team:
Join the Honey team, part of PayPal, where we own and manage the entire notification platform for Honey's shopping services. Our team handles everything from transactional and marketing emails to product updates, covering the full lifecycle of email creation. You'll be part of a dynamic group developing net-new use cases for email, such as shopping rewards, while ensuring seamless backend platform support. By maintaining full ownership of the notification platform, we play a critical role in enhancing our customers' shopping experience.

In this role, you will have full ownership of the notification lifecycle, playing a pivotal role in integrating systems across the broader PayPal ecosystem. Your day to day:





  • Help to design, implement, and maintain platform-level solutions used by other engineering teams and the larger PayPal organization






  • Design, build, and operate APIs with a focus on performance and reliability






  • Participate in new feature development for the PayPal Shopping engineers to interact with backend notification services






  • Architect, design, write, review, and test code in a collaborative environment with other software engineers






  • Build modern, resilient, and operationally sane backend systems exemplifying industry standards (HTTP REST, GraphQL, Stream processing)






  • Plan for, build, evolve, and scrutinize monitoring and alerting for your production systems






  • Deploy, troubleshoot, and maintain your systems in production and staging environments





What do you need to bring:





  • 5+ years of experience in distributed systems, microservices architecture, and backend software development.






  • Proficiency in idiomatic JavaScript/Node.js; familiarity with Golang, Java, Python, Scala, or Ruby is helpful






  • Experience with React






  • Knowledge of modern version-control systems (Git, Mercurial, GitHub, BitBucket)






  • Experience with cloud computing systems (GCP, AWS, etc.)






  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, CircleCI, and Git.






  • Experience with GraphQL, GraphQL Federation, REST APIs, and supporting network protocols






  • Ability to architect with SQL data stores
