The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), founded in 1891, is a public, coeducational, doctoral-granting university serving around 18,000 students, including over 3,600 graduate students, with support from more than 2,500 faculty and staff. Recognized for high research activity and community-engaged scholarship, UNCG excels in social mobility, enrolling and graduating economically disadvantaged students. Reporting to a transformational Chancellor, the key to success for the new Vice Chancellor for Strategic Communications will be implementing and empowering a restructured division, fostering a culture of curiosity and collaboration, and building relationships at all levels, including the Chancellors Council. The ideal candidate will be a strategist unafraid to challenge the status quo who brings fresh perspectives, proven leadership, and a commitment to innovation. The Vice Chancellor will be pivotal in shaping and communicating UNC Greensboros commitment to access, excellence, impactful research, and meaningful contributions at local, state, and national levels. This role offers a unique opportunity for a dynamic and accomplished communications and marketing leader to collaborate with a visionary Chancellor and senior team in crafting and executing a comprehensive marketing, branding, and communications strategy. By overseeing and unifying all university-wide efforts, the Vice Chancellor will establish a cohesive platform that aligns messaging and branding, advances institutional goals, supports individual units, and profoundly engages both on-campus and external audiences, including students families, donors, alums, government officials, and community partners.
The successful candidate will have a record of success as an innovative and collaborative leader in large, complex organizations with substantial experience developing and implementing multi-faceted marketing and communications efforts that position and elevate the perception of an entire institution, brand, or company with multiple audiences. This person will need exceptional diplomacy, discretion, and judgment; a complete understanding of the marketing, communications, and branding process from creative conceptualization to implementation; expert knowledge of traditional, digital, video, and emerging media and media relations; a nuanced understanding of how to balance exceptional creativity with rigorous, data-driven metrics; and demonstrated success fostering an empowered team culture and building an efficient, cohesive, and collaborative work ethic. In addition, the Vice Chancellor will be able to inspire internal communications partners across the organization, have a collaborative, collegial orientation, and model personal excellence in written and oral communications.
