PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Peter F Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University is seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Director of Philanthropy to work closely with the Drucker School and university leadership to inspire philanthropic engagement with CGU. The position will report to the Dean of the Drucker School, as well as the CGU AVP of Advancement, and will combine the art and science of donor engagementdeep interpersonal and technical skills that inspire and steward philanthropy among individuals, foundations, and corporations.

This position requires confidence and collegiality, as well as the expertise to formulate giving opportunities for donors. The Director will collaborate with a small, high-performing Advancement team that understands the significance of philanthropy to the long-term success of the university.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the Dean of the Drucker School, key partners in CGU advancement, university leadership, and Advancement colleagues to plan and execute university-wide fundraising strategies.

  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit major donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations.

  • Initiate and strengthen donor relationships through consistent, meaningful outreach.

  • Execute campaigns for annual, major, and planned giving donors, incorporating strategic events.

  • Coordinate individual and foundation proposal development and reporting.

  • Meet with Drucker faculty, staff, board members, alums and students to obtain a deep understanding of the schools programs, engage Drucker / CGU community in development and donor relations activities, and establish strong partnerships across the campus.

  • Ensure timely and accurate communication with donors, including impact and stewardship reports.

  • Provide leadership and best practices for gift acceptance policies and procedures. This includes the introduction and facilitation of new gift opportunities.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Qualified individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills.

  • Proven track record and significant experience in philanthropy, specifically in initiating, soliciting, stewarding, and closing significant current-use and/or deferred gifts.

  • Working knowledge of current federal (IRS) and state (CA) rules and regulations governing charitable giving.

  • Understanding of and ability to apply marketing concepts and techniques, including market research and segmentation.

  • Experience working on fundraising campaigns, including achieving financial goals that support capital and programmatic initiatives.

  • Experience building and managing giving strategies, including setting financial goals.

  • Sound management, leadership, and analytical skills.

  • Proven self-starter and results-oriented creativity and commitment to working as part of a team enterprise.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

EDUCATION: Bachelors degree required; masters preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 8 to 10 years of professional experience with a proven track record of soliciting major gifts and cultivating strong donor relationships. We value transferable skills and relevant work experience that meet the job's requirements, including strategic communication, stakeholder management, project management, and data analysis. Working knowledge of CRM systems.

LICENSES / CERTIFICATES: Must possess a valid California drivers license.

HOURS: This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt-level position. Office hours are 8:30 am to 5 pm
