Employees in this classification are responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities in an assigned correctional facility. They function within their legal scope of practice and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organization and practice setting. Work is performed under the direction of a registered nurse as part of a total correctional managed health care team in providing safe and competent care to patients.

Major/Essential Functions
Communicates patient data using EHR to support decision-making to improve patient care.
Prepares and operates necessary equipment and instruments for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
Performs assessments and assist with exams and procedures and documents intervention in EHR.
Assist with care of patients exhibiting symptoms of potential emergent/urgent conditions to facilitate improved patient outcomes.
Assist with coordinating the Primary Care Clinic daily schedule. Will assist providers in the clinic setting.
Administer or assist with administration of medications as needed. Will assist with chain in medication orders and med renewals.
Triage Sick Call Requests.

In addition to the base position compensation, we offer shift differential pay for night and weekend shifts: Licensed Vocational Nurse Differential:
Day Shift Employees: Earn an extra $3.00 per hour for shifts worked on Saturday and Sunday.
Night Shift Employees:
Earn an extra $3.00 per hour for shifts worked Monday through Friday.
Earn an extra $6.00 per hour for shifts worked on Saturday and Sunday.

Required Qualifications
Current Vocational Nurse License in the State of Texas, or ability to transfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete a program of vocational nursing within 120 days of applying for a position . Current CPR certification. Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX- PN) on the first attempt. No experience required.
