Job Description Summary


We are looking for an experienced program manager who will lead the operations of two independent but overlapping research endeavors that reside within the Department of Medicine (TCE) and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Penn (PICI@Penn). The candidate will work with the TCE Director and with the PICI@Penn Center directors on scientific project planning, prioritization and approvals, and with other TCE and PICI@Penn stakeholders to ensure the partner's contractual rights and obligations are honored. The candidate will help determine, plan, and track strategic direction and progress and ensure delivery of agreed upon milestones; ensure adherence to and reconciliation to research budgets and spending; and develop and maintain broad and deep external relations with key partners (Abramson Cancer Center, Parker Central) in all solution areas, including strategic alignment, technology transfer, project timelines and expectations. In addition, this position will help to manage the research, grant administration and operations of the TCE and PICI@Penn. The Program Manager will also manage relationships with other funding agencies, such as private foundations and bio-pharmaceutical companies. He or she will work in a highly cross-functional environment and interact accordingly with the internal and external research groups to lead the transition of candidate cell/gene therapy products into the clinic. These activities will include evaluating progression and milestones related to strategic objectives of the TCE and of PICI@Penn. The Program Manager will report directly to the Director of the TCE (Dr. Gill) and to co-Directors of PICI@Penn (Dr. June, Dr. Wherry and Dr. Gill).

Job Responsibilities



  • Provides daily operations management of research projects working in collaboration with the Principal Investigator and project teams; supervises staff, plans meetings and manages budget

  • Develops and manages systems for data collection, quality control and compliance

  • Oversees and manages data for the research projects

  • Prepares financial, regulatory and technical progress reports; drafts articles for publication; prepares data summaries

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

  • Master's degree and 3-5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
