Summary of Position


The English Department at Allegheny College invites applications for a specialist in African American and/or African Diasporic Literatures interested in joining a vibrant program dedicated to outstanding undergraduate education in literature and creative writing. This is a tenure-track position beginning in August of 2025. Our future colleague will be an active teacher-scholar whose work and professional interests demonstrate an earnest engagement with a diverse world, with a particular emphasis on African American and/or African Diasporic literatures. This person will also be able to teach broadly in American literature. While primary teaching responsibilities will be in the Department of English, we have particular interest in candidates with expertise in race and/or social justice who could contribute to the core curriculum in the interdisciplinary programs of Black Studies or Community and Justice Studies. All Allegheny faculty teach in the college-wide speaking and writing seminars and advise senior projects. The teaching load is 3/3, with course releases earned for Senior Project advising.

Experience and Qualifications


Qualifications: Ph.D., a promising record of scholarly engagement in the candidate's specialty area, and college teaching experience. Strong candidates will demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate education, including pedagogy and experience consistent with diversity, equity, and inclusion.
