The Office of Financial Aid (OFA) believes that making an impact and addressing critical issues in the world demands an undergraduate experience that reflects a diversity of views, backgrounds and life experiences. Responsibilities:
We seek to hire a Financial Aid Counselor or Assistant Director of Financial Aid.
Counselors and Assistant Directors are responsible for the following:
Evaluating financial aid application forms and federal income tax returns
Gathering applicant data to comply with federal regulations
Packaging and adjusting awards
Communicating with prospective and current students and their parents to answer their questions and guide them to financing options
Reviewing appeals for additional aid
Collaborating on cases handled by colleagues in Financial Aid Award Committee
Contributing to review of office policies in FAAC
This is a dual graded position posting. The candidate's qualifications/experience will determine if the position is filled at the Counselor or Assistant Director level.
Qualifications:
Assistant Director
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree required.
4+ years financial aid experience required.
Quantitative and analytical skills; organizational skills; attentiveness to detail required.
Experience utilizing computer systems as well as skills with various applications (Word, EXCEL, Powerpoint, Federal EDE, Banner, eg. ) preferred. Experience with managing communication outreach via social media is a plus.
Counselor
Education and Experience:
1-2 years of related experience preferred.
Experience utilizing computer systems as well as skills with various applications (Word, EXCEL, PowerPoint, Banner, eg. ) preferred
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in the administration of financial aid programs in a financial aid office required.
Competencies:
Quantitative and analytical skills; organizational skills; attentiveness to detail required.
Must be able to work independently and be motivated to assist students and their families in understanding the financial aid process and financing options at Brown.
Must be able to communicate effectively using interpersonal, written, and public speaking skills.
Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
