Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary




The Palliative Care Program Manager is responsible for managing the operations and business components of the Palliative Care Program, supporting the mission and vision of the program and Eskenazi Health. This position facilitates the development of the Palliative Care program goals, practices, processes and procedures, in collaboration with team members, and ensures implementation of these. This position delivers direct clinical service support to the department providers including clinic scheduling, credentialing, payroll management, and maintenance of human resource requirements.




Essential Functions and Responsibilities






  • Responsible for managing the operations and business components of the Palliative Care Program, supporting the mission and vision of the program and Eskenazi Health

  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining a business plan which reflects continuous growth in the scope, the capacity as well as the quality of the Palliative Care Program

  • Responsible for researching/writing/securing funding opportunities for the program; collaborates with Eskenazi Health, Eskenazi Health Foundation and IU grant writing resources as applicable

  • Responsible for facilitating the program's marketing initiatives to include development of materials and communication of program information

  • Responsible for data management for the program to include development and maintenance of a data base to support qualitative and quantitative metrics and provides reports as identified. Interfaces with hospital, EMG and IUSOM resources regarding data reporting from established systems. Responsible for data collection, compilation, and submission for QA/QI reporting and benchmarking

  • Collaborates effectively with all members of the team to ensure goal attainment

  • Demonstrates strong inter- and intra-departmental communication skills to achieve desired outcomes

  • Effectively manages the budget within established parameters, considering all allocated and available financial resources

  • Manages the human resource functions for the cost center

  • Facilitates the development of the Palliative Care program goals, practices, processes and procedures, in collaboration with team members, and ensures implementation of these

  • Manages the external human resources functions of the medical staff associated with the program

  • Oversees the management of the practices, processes, procedures, contract negotiations, billings, and organization of the department's fellowship program

  • Administers the effective management of the budget for the department's fellowship program within the constraints of the available financial resources

  • Analyzes and reports on fellowship program fund utilization to outside reporting agencies and donors to ensure compliance with all funding requirements to safeguard continued programmatic support

  • Leads facilitation of all programmatic special events and fundraising campaigns to achieve desired outcomes while raising funds and awareness to support the mission and vision of the program

  • Oversees recruitment and coordination with internal and external groups to facilitate special events and community outreach

  • Directs the planning, set up and execution of annual fundraising events

  • Oversees the recruitment, communication, coordination, training, and updating of patients, participants and information relevant to all special events and community outreach efforts

  • Supervises the communication development for, and solicitation of, individuals and corporate fundraising endeavors up to and including preparing activity reports and thank you letters, etc. for funds raised

  • Supervises the preparation of communication pieces including news releases, mass mailings, brochures, and other publications as deemed necessary for community outreach

  • Oversees recruitment, development and training of volunteers to support the department specific programs

  • Delivers direct clinical service support to the department providers including clinic scheduling, credentialing, payroll management, and maintenance of human resource requirements





Job Requirements






  • Master's degree required in Health Administration, Business Administration and/or Hospital Administration or other health related field

  • Progressive experience in the health care field

  • Experience in fund raising, managing a not-for-profit health care program or administrative duties/program managing desired.

  • Is able to effectively obtain data and/or enter data from hospital programs after training. Demonstrates the ability to use a variety of information technology systems. Strong data base management and reporting skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Power Point and publisher. Able to develop, maintain and generate reports and/or products using these tools.

  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written skills. Communicates effectively within a clinical health care team setting.

  • Project management skills in establishing goals and strategies to meet established plan, monitor goals within timeline for multiple projects/initiatives.

  • Demonstrates grant writing skills by generating a minimum of one grant per year.

  • Develop and monitor a business

  • Represent the Palliative Care Program to potential donors, grant offices and others

  • Management of a website desired.

  • Ability to organize and facilitate meetings effectively.
