Job Role Summary
The Staff Nurse III - Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center performs all functions of Staff Nurse II, providing professional nursing care to patients. Functions independently as a practitioner, demonstrating superior problem-solving decision-making and critical thinking skills.
This role isFriday, Saturday, and Sunday from 7:00 PM -7:30 AM.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Performs all functions of Staff Nurse II, providing professional nursing care to patients. Functions independently as a practitioner, demonstrating superior problem-solving decision-making and critical thinking skills.
Provides direct patient care as needed. Is a technical expert and resource or able to provide access to expert care as needed.
Functions as a clinical expert, clinical consultant and resource to nursing unit staff to facilitate consistent quality patient care.
Coordinates unit level quality management and performance improvement activities with direction. Initiates processes to resolve clinical problems to include PI projects with direction.
Monitors and evaluates care and practice for self and others, collects data to ensure effectiveness of interventions.
Coordinates assignment, unit staffing and scheduling based on established standards. Facilitates optimal utilization of resources to meet patient needs by ensuring employees have the tools and information to function efficiently.
Facilitates efficient patient throughput, which includes appropriate bed placement based on diagnosis, acuity and staffing requirements in collaboration with staffing coordination.
Ensures discharge planning occurs in collaboration with case management and area management.
Functions as a clinical coach, serves as a resource for other clinical coaches and area preceptors. Participates in planning orientation and development of staff.
Supports consistent regulatory readiness for unit/area via rounding, counseling/coaching and monitoring. Is aware standards and regulations applicable to clinical unit.
Functions as a charge nurse and shift coordinator, able to problem-solve unit and area level operations issues, collaborating with management as defined.
A resource for unit/area emergencies, disasters or other emergent situations by responding, facilitating communication and resources with management/administrative support. This may include responding to codes or other identified high acuity events.
Participates in the evaluation of staff by providing input, supporting development and coaching and counseling of staff.
Coordinates special programs within area of expertise as delegated.
Contributes to the effectiveness of the team by actively assisting in the change process in a positive constructive manner.
Follows on patient incidents and complaints as delegated by management.
Serves as a mediator, facilitates conflict resolution between staff, and involves management as directed.
Participates on committees as delegated to represent area or nursing practice.
Continues to pursue educational and/or professional growth opportunities pertinent to clinical and professional development, seeks specialty certification within identified time frames as appropriate.
Job Requirements
Current Indiana License as a Registered Nurse
Graduation from a nationally accredited college or university
Current BLS certification
Current ACLS certification
Additional certifications and specialty skills related to designated area of practice
Minimum of three to five years of clinical nursing experience as a registered nurse
BSN preferred
