Job Summary

As part of the Individual Giving team in Chicago Booth's Office of Advancement, this role will drive meaningful, measurable alumni engagement and fundraising activity to support Booth's faculty research and learning centers and dean's priorities.


Creates and implements a fundraising strategy to maximize major and principal gift revenue in for Centers and other Initiatives, as well as the territories within the teams' portfolios. Leads a team comprised of the Associate Director, Major Gifts, Centers and Initiatives and the Development Associate, Centers and Initiatives and West Coast, Individual Giving. Co-manages Booth's Major Gifts Program, alongside the Major Gifts Regional Managers, under the direction of the Senior Director, U.S. and Global Individual Giving. The Director identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards a portfolio of prospects with gift capacity of $1M and above and manages principal gift prospects. Develops and executes strategies to build a pipeline of future major gift prospects in partnership with leadership giving and alumni relations. Partners with University Alumni Relations and Development to assist their fundraising activity on behalf of Chicago Booth.


Lead and support major and principal gift fundraising for Booth's research and learning centers and the school's strategic initiatives via relationship management and driving fundraising strategies of the centers. Support Individual Giving team by serving as team liaison for the University's Office of Gift Planning.


This position is based in Chicago and requires 20% travel.



Responsibilities



  • Manages a portfolio of 60-80 prospects, including identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects.

  • Closes gifts in excess of $250,000.

  • Identifies, analyzes, and qualifies donor interest to maximize giving. Assists with overall planning efforts for the University's prospects.

  • Briefs senior-level administrators in preparation for contact with prospects.

  • Serves as a liaison to the academic and administrative leadership and staff of Chicago Booth's research and learning Centers, Gift Planning, and new initiatives as they arise. Serves as the day-to-day liaison for the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation or the Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation, while supporting major and principal gift fundraising activities of all Centers.

  • Helps teams navigate critical partnerships between the Centers and the Office of Advancement.

  • Proactively shares information between the Centers and the Office of Advancement.

  • Supports Centers' management of their Advisory Boards, including solicitations, renewals, and board activities.

  • Supports collaborative activities between the Office of Advancement and research and learning Centers, including coordinating prospect visits, stewardship calls, and special event opportunities.

  • Contributes to strategic plans, policies, and procedures for centers and initiatives fundraising and engagement.

  • Writes timely and strategic correspondences to advance relationships.

  • Works with others to maximize prospective donor cultivation; partners with Donor Relations on stewardship activities.

  • Provides expertise to by working closely with Senior Leadership, Officers and Deans to design strategic objectives and action steps that will lead to the successful realization of these projects.

  • Briefs the senior level administrators in preparation for contact with prospects.

  • Performs other related work as needed.




Minimum Qualifications




Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.



Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Experience:



  • Knowledge and skills developed through a minimum eight years of work experience in a related job discipline.

  • A minimum five years of work experience in customer service, nonprofit management, sales, advancement, donor relations, stewardship, alumni relations, or similar work.




Technical Skills or Knowledge:



  • Demonstrated MS Office expertise (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), web conferencing proficiency, event logistics, and internet researching skills.

  • Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated initiative, and work both independently and within a team.
