Job Description:

Position Description


  • Daily operational duties include (but are not limited to) manual loading and unloading of tank-cars, tank-trucks, ocean-going tankers, tank-to-tank transfers, and blending operations. All operations must be conducted in a safe and diligent manner.

  • Operator will monitor products for quality as required by customer. Manually operate valves on tanks and/or pump valves during normal operating conditions. Opens/closes tank fill line valves prior to and after each delivery on storage tanks, which may involve either manually operated or motorized equipment. Starts and stops pumps at terminal.

  • Checks above ground tanks for storage capacity by taking line-gauge and/or reading varec.

  • Samples both incoming and outgoing product as required by customer.

  • Calculates/monitors storage capacity on tankage. Installs or removes man-ways, blind-flanges, portable hoses, pipe, and pumps as required.

  • Required to operate forklift once OSHA training requirements are fulfilled.

  • Maintains a written list of shift activities and accomplishments.

  • Inspects entire tank farm, pumping and receiving equipment and loading racks (where applicable) during each shift in order to identify any operational problems, completes associated shift documentation for such.

  • Monitors loading rack operation through use of telephone and/or cameras.

  • Performs troubleshooting of loading rack pumps, and motors.

  • Inspects equipment for excessive seal leakage, noise, proper oil levels, etc.

  • Notifies supervisor of equipment abnormalities or failures, completes maintenance request form in detail..

  • Performs duties such as painting of piping, tanks and buildings with hand equipment; weed control and landscaping functions; housekeeping activities such as mopping, dusting, sweeping, scrubbing, and sanitizing Operator's rest room, and shop areas; washing down of company vehicles, station piping and pumps with soap and water as needed, and sweeping areas as required.

  • Operates Company vehicle to run errands, pick up equipment and supplies and transport the same as needed.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • All operators will be given ample time, materials, and guidelines to complete all training requirements as specified in the annual training manual/matrix. Training may be completed in a variety of means, e.g., computer-based, classroom, on-the-job, etc. It is the operator's responsibility to ensure that his/her individual required training is completed in a timely fashion and as required by all applicable rules and regulations (city, county, state, federal, etc.).

  • Weighs tank-trucks in and out as directed; completes scale ticket and bill of lading, ensures driver has correct paperwork upon completion.

  • Adheres to house rules at all times.


Position Requirements

Education:


  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • This is an entry-level position.

Experience / specific Knowledge:
Certification, licenses, registrations:

  • A satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and a current, valid State driver's license are required.

  • Satisfactorily obtaining or already possessing a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is a condition of employment. TWIC card is obtained by submitting an application, background check, and having fingerprints taken.

  • If the employee is subject to license or certification requirements or training as stipulated by local, state or federal agencies or the Company, now or in the future, compliance is required under this job description.

Competencies, skills, and abilities:

  • Some computer application skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook is a plus.

  • Well-balanced interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communications skills are required.

  • Must be accountable and take direction from Managers, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.

  • Must be able to pass all required training including annually assigned CBT modules.

  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential.

  • Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions.

    • Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision and/or direction.

    • Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies.

    • Must be able to communicate well with coworkers, truck drivers, customers, regulators, and other outside contacts. Must be courteous, accurate, and thorough in dealing with contacts both within and outside the company.

    • Requires good judgment and time management in order to identify priorities and complete all activities.



Physical demands:
  • Employee must be physically capable of completing and satisfying all training requirements as stipulated by local, state or federal agencies and/or Company Policy.

    • Must meet physical requirements, including, but not limited to:

    • consistently lifting / carrying and pulling / pushing weights / forces up to 60 pounds

    • routinely gripping forces of up to 80 pounds

    • routine walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending and squatting, climbing up / down ladders and stairs, standing,

    • sitting, and negotiating uneven and moving surfaces



Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work 8-hour day/swing/graveyard shifts, however, the shifts do not rotate and are assigned on a seniority basis. Operator could be required to work 300+ overtime hours per year including weekends and holidays. Overtime could be day or night and is assigned on a seniority basis.

  • May require working alone on evenings, nights, and weekends.

    • Work is labor intensive at times and involves climbing tank ladders and stairs, and operating large valves.

    • Position subject to 24-hour call-out, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

    • Exposure to smells and fumes associated with refined petroleum products.




Pay range: $33.00 - $47.00 per hour. This position includes a discretionary annual incentive plan. Job level and pay commensurate with experience and skill set.
