As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be part of the MECC Design & Systems group. MECC is a Technology Development Center that supports the design, development, and production of components used in implantable devices for a variety of Medtronic businesses. You will focus on driving design integrity across multiple component product lines to attain business goals consistent with cost, high quality, reliability and manufacturability requirements.

You will have responsibility for designing battery and capacitors products that aligns with the manufacturing roadmap for Implantable Devices. Key Aspect of this role include designing robust Components, Developing Component Specifications and Managing Design Risk Burn Down / Capability Growth. Other responsibilities may include support of released product changes as including design change impact analysis, CAPA support and design history file documentation updates. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are critical to success in this role. This role interacts with other functions within Chief Engineering, R&T, Device RPE, PMO, Sourcing, Product Development, Manufacturing, Quality and Regulatory across multiple organization to improve existing design for new and mature products.

This is an On-site role, requiring the ability to be on-site at times with potential for some hybrid work flexibility if desired and agreed with manager.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Researches , plans, designs, verifies, validates and develops mechanical and/or electromechanical products and systems, such as metals, instruments, controls, plastics, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, resonance, hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.

  • Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs.

  • May be responsible for the transfer from R&D to manufacturing.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelors degree required

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering , Mechanical engineering or a related discipline

  • 3+ years of experience in R&D and/or Manufacturing in a medical device industry

  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and methodologies

  • Experience in Lean SixSigma or DRM / DFSS

  • Knowledge and understanding of product and process risk analysis tools. Experience with physical testing of mechanical systems/components and failure analysis is a plus

  • Demonstrated ability in analyzing and solving problems in a disciplined fashion, ensuring clear understanding of the root cause(s) and efficient recommendations for resolution

  • Strong Technical Communication skills - both verbal and written

  • Must be self-motivated, have attention to details and able to integrate a large cross functional team

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$122,400.00 - $183,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance , Health Savings Account , Healthcare Flexible Spending Account , Life insurance, Long-term disability leave , Dependent daycare spending account , Tuition assistance/reimbursement , and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
