Job Description:

Purpose of the Position

To provide compassionate pastoral care and ministry on a strictly voluntary basis to team members and their immediate families, regardless of their religious affiliation or beliefs.

Essential Position Responsibilities - This is a Salary Exempt position.

Provides compassionate and effective pastoral care. Serve as a pastoral care provider for all team members and immediate family members at their assigned facilities/plants through regular visits to the work sites for all shifts. Our team members and their families may experience hospitalization, births, death, individual crises, marriage, natural disasters, special accomplishments, and many other life experiences that will provide opportunities for them to voluntarily request a chaplain. Chaplain Services provides 24 hour, 365 day availability. Chaplains develop relationships and maintain contact with all team members through proactive pastoral visits to the various worksites.

Mentor and coach team members looking to grow in areas such as their relationships, faith, finances, leadership, etc. Provide resources and regular coaching connections to assist in vision casting, goal setting, as well as provide a source of accountability in the area(s) where the team members desire to grow.

Provides resources for team members in need through our Simmons Chaplain Fund, Employees Helping Employees, community non-profit organizations, etc. This could be food, housing, transportation, utilities, due to a family emergency or natural disaster.

Performs funerals and provides grief & aftercare support. This includes assistance with grief management, planning the funeral service, speaking for the service, and supporting family members before and after the funeral. Acts as a member of a "Death Notification Team", in case of an unfortunate event where an employee is killed in a job-related accident or death from natural causes while on the job, the chaplain will assist in notifying the family as well as provide aftercare-grief support.

Writes articles of interest and inspiration for the Chaplain Services website. Encourages and challenges our employees with short devotionals through blogs and Notes for the Journey, via the Chaplain Services website.

Serves as a consultant to plant management on all matters of religion, morals, ethics , and morale as they impact individuals in the workforce and on the plant as a whole. May be asked to be involved in meetings where any of these matters are being discussed. Speaks for in-house events (religious or secular meetings, team member gatherings, etc.) when the management desires an inspirational speaker. May be asked to offer a prayer or short devotional thought before a meeting or meal.

Provides Spiritual enrichment activities as requested by management, with voluntary attendance by team members, including devotional services, Bible studies, and special seasonal services. May be contacted to conduct a devotional/prayer time during a break or before/after work.

Participates as a member of the Team . Participates in the ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas lacking cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues. Actively looks for ways to reinforce actions needed to achieve synergy within the larger organization.

Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position's role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Physical Activities: Enters and locates information on a computer. Visually verifies information, often in small print. Communicates with Customers, Vendors, or Employees via telephone, in person, and/or electronic mail. May present information to small or large groups. Must be able to work in various temperatures. Move about in a manufacturing environment and surrounding property to include climbing stairs. May travel via car or plane to various work locations.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): As required by visiting facility.

Travel: There will be significant time spent in transit to hospitals, funeral homes, and Simmons facilities, etc.

Technical Experience: Must have 5 years of pastoral care experience with specific experience in individual counseling, mission work or hospice. Preference is given to those who have had workplace chaplaincy experience and/or have previous work experience in a secular workplace. Bilingual skills are beneficial at many of our locations.

Industry Experience: Any experience in the poultry, pet food, or manufacturing industry will be an asset to the Chaplain as he/she will have a good understanding of the demands and the needs of employees in those environments.

Minimum Education : Bachelor's degree with a focus related to chaplaincy, pastoral care, etc. or 4 years of related experience.

Preferred Education : It is preferred that a Simmons Chaplain have a broad educational background with seminary studies completed at the Master's level. It is preferred that Chaplains will have completed a minimum of (ONE) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education.
