Waubonsee Community College is currently seeking a full-time, tenure-track Instructor of Automotive Technology with a commitment to teaching excellence, diversity, equity and holistic student success.


The Instructor of Automotive Technology will deliver curriculum and instruction for a range of topics including engine service, power trains, brake systems, service advisor, parts specialist, suspension and wheel alignment, ignition systems, fuel and emission systems, automatic transmission/transaxles, service shop operations, engine control systems, heating and air conditioning, accessories and diagnostics, classic car care and service, hybrid and electric vehicles, and other related courses.


The full-time faculty member of Automotive Technology will be responsible for the curriculum, instruction and student learning assessment for Associate in Applied Science degree in Automotive Service Technology, as well as various Certificate of Achievement programs. The curriculum must follow the standards set forth by the Automobile Service Excellence (ASE) program accreditation.


The position is based at the Sugar Grove Campus and teaching assignments may include days, evenings and/or weekends. Courses may be offered in various delivery modes, i.e. face-to-face, flex, online, synch-online, and hybrid. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to effectively use instructional and classroom technology to enhance teaching and learning.


Duties and expectations of this position include, but are not limited to:


Designing syllabi, lessons, activities, assignments and assessments that address the needs of a diverse student population and ensure that students successfully meet program and course objectives and outcomes.


Incorporating learning-centered principles and concepts and motivating students to participate actively in all aspects of the educational experience.


Employing instructional and classroom technology appropriately and effectively to deliver and enhance teaching and learning in online, hybrid and face-to-face courses.


Assisting the Automotive Technology department in the areas of curriculum development, student success initiatives, student advising, adjunct faculty mentorship, assessment of student learning, support for student clubs and organizations and the continued alignment and maintenance of the Automobile Service Excellence (ASE) program accreditation.


Collaborating with team members and industry (i.e. Advisory Committee and employer partners) to design and implement the most effective Automotive Technology program that maintains industry standards.


Working collaboratively with professional colleagues to serve the needs of students and the community.


Modeling professionalism with excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.


Associate's degree in Automotive Technology with relevant ASE Certifications.


A minimum of 4000 hours of work-related, hands-on experience in the field of Automotive Technology and relevant ASE Certification(s).



Preferred Qualifications



Master ASE Certification.
Bachelor's degree in Automotive Technology.
Two years of post-secondary teaching experience in Automotive Technology or a related field.
Teaching experience at the Vocational/Technical or Community College level highly preferred.
Experience incorporating technology and multimedia applications into teaching and learning process and interest in all forms of alternative learning is highly desirable.
Interdisciplinary focus integrating innovative learning strategies and the demonstrated ability to enhance the success of diverse student populations is essential.
Experience teaching traditionally under-served populations.
Experience teaching online courses.

Compensation Range: Column I Steps 1-10 66,136.00 - 79,039.00 Placement on the salary schedule is dependent on qualifications. Qualifications include education and teaching experience
