Under the general direction of the Manager of Field Service and Water Conservation, the Temporary AMI Field Service Administrator oversees the installation of the AMI meters, endpoints, meter box lids, base stations, or other AMI related infrastructure completed by San Jose Water (SJW) staff or outside contractors. This position will work directly with the Superintendent of Field Customer Service, the Superintendent of Meter Shop, AMI Program Manager, SJW's Chief Engineer and leads from outside contractors.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRINCIPAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:




  •  
    Be the primary contact person at SJW for interactions with contract installers or other contractors hired to implement AMI.





  •  
    Serve as the agent and representative of SJW in matter concerning the deployment of AMI at customers' premises and locations for base station installations.




  •  
    Assist contract installers in communicating with customers in case there are questions or issues that the installer is not able to answer.




  •  
    Review Return to Utility (RTU) files and route internally within SJW or work with installer to resolve issue preventing installation of AMI.




  •  
    Provide contract installers with the Meter Reading Cycles that are to have AMI meters installed.




  •  
    Provide contract installer with meter location assistance if meter location cannot be found.




  •  
    Work with other SJW departments to coordinate the installation of AMI equipment that contract installers cannot complete such as large meters (1.5" and larger), and/or meters that need to be moved or service lines that need repairs.




  •  
    Provide the Meter Shop with administrative assistance regarding AMI installations and maintenance including the reporting needed for defective meters, endpoints, RMA process, etc.




  •  
    Coordinate with SJW departments in instances where installers are unable to stop uncontrolled water flow (leaks).




  •  
    Conduct inspections of installers work as part of SJW's AMI AQ/QC process when assigned.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:




  •  
    An associate or bachelor's degree or equivalent in experience in directing the work

    of contractors.




  •  
    At least three years of progressively responsible project management experience.




  •  
    Preferred AWWA Grade 1 Distribution certification.




  •  
    Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.



REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:




  •  
    Knowledge of principles and practices of effective management of contractors and projects, including short- and long-term planning, project planning and monitoring, scheduling, and performance evaluation.




  •  
    The commonly accepted practices and procedures of meeting and dealing with the public and handling customer complaints.




  •  
    Knowledge of the Company's service area and water delivery system.




  •  
    Ability to keep clear, concise and accurate records.




  •  
    Deal tactfully and courteously with customers in situations where relations may be strained.




  •  
    Ability to analyze costs to develop and implement improved work procedures.




  •  
    Effectively handle difficult customer complaints.




  •  
    Analyze data, draw sound conclusions, use independent judgment, make recommendations and develop and implement effective solutions.




  •  
    Utilize a personal computer and current applications of word processing or spreadsheet software programs.




  •  
    Excellent written and oral communication skills.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:




  •  
    Capable of working outside to handle field work in addition to office duties.
