The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is seeking an Environmental Aid for the Adult Surgery Specialty Services Unit (2RC) within the Medical Surgical Services (MSS) Division. The Surgical Specialty Unit (2 Roy Carver) is a 34-bed surgical unit that provides post-operative care for a variety of patients undergoing complex procedures. Essential to the care of these multidimensional patients is an interdisciplinary team skilled in the areas of post-operative disease processes.

  • Solid organ transplant
    • Liver
    • Pancreas
    • Kidney
  • Trauma surgery
  • Vascular
    • Femoral popliteal bypass
    • Carotid endarterectomy
    • Abdominal aortic aneurysm
  • Colorectal Surgery
  • Bariatric Surgery
    • Laparoscopic and Robotic sleeve gastrectomy
    • Laparoscopic and Robotic gastric bypass
  • Emergency general surgery
The Surgical Specialty Unit believes it is our responsibility to provide patient centered care that will enable surgical patients and their families to cope with the physiological and psychological aspects of their illness or injury. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Communicates and interacts with patients, visitors, and other health care professionals in an effective manner and maintains positive, cooperative relationships.
  • Observes patients for changes in physical condition throughout their stay, and reports to registered nurse.
  • Assembles equipment and supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by nurses or physicians.
  • Performs computer functions within scope of role as defined by the individual unit.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Practices standard precautions in infection control in accordance with institutional policy.
  • Assists staff during emergencies, within the scope of practice.
  • Performs other projects and tasks as assigned.
  • Participates in unit staff meetings and in-services.
  • Complies with annual competency review guidelines.
  • Incorporates the principles of Service Leadership to ensure positive patient/customer relations.
  • Adheres to UIHC policies regarding personal conduct, including: follows established leadership, remaining responsive to instruction and coaching from supervisors and meeting the standards of personal appearance, attendance and punctuality.

Percent of Time: 100%


Schedule: Monday through Friday, day shift

Location: University Campus, Iowa City, IA
