The Athletic Equipment Assistant is responsible for managing daily operations in the athletic equipment room and laundry facility, ensuring all equipment and uniforms are in good condition for athletes and teams. This role involves performing routine maintenance, inventory control, and supporting athletic events.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service/Communication
Demonstrates ability to provide professional communications in all interactions, including face-to-face, phone, or written. Demonstrates ability to listen to customers and provide information in a courteous and helpful manner. Demonstrates ability to diffuse the challenging situations and remain calm and focused and escalate as required. Demonstrates ability to communicate (oral and written) with customers in an appropriate level of detail. Demonstrates ability to appropriately broker services for customers that do not relate to Athletics. Demonstrates positive relationships with all students, faculty, employees, parents, alumni and guests. Demonstrates an ability to work with a diverse group of constituents.
Regulatory, Safety and Equipment Operations
Demonstrates use of all safety regulations (federal, state and local), as well as Colgate policies, practices and procedures to carry out duties in a safe manner related to carrying out duties. Operates and maintains tools, equipment and vehicles in accordance with safety regulations, policies and procedures. Stays up-to-date on required training. Maintains competency and knowledge of applicable rules (eg. NCAA, ECAC and Patriot League) to act within realm of responsibility in full compliance with the governing legislation, and to report any violation.
Project and Job Planning
Demonstrates the ability to independently prepare for team needs (e.g. equipment, uniforms, etc.) in a timely manner.
Technology
Demonstrates ability to use technology (e.g. email) to communicate and record work activity as required. Demonstrates expertise knowledge related to technology (e.g. systems, tools, equipment) that is used for specific duties. Demonstrates expertise knowledge in database sufficient for accurate recording of receiving and inventory.
Vendor Relations
Demonstrates positive relationships with contractors and vendors. Follows University guidelines for bidding and selection of services and goods. Ensures that assigned contractors and vendors follow University guidelines.
Team Work
Demonstrates an ability to work as part of a unified team, with positive relationships with all members of the department. Demonstrates strong coordination and communications between multi-functional teams to get the job done and done well. Demonstrates guidance and encouragement to fellow team members to be successful.
Laundry and Gym
Demonstrates ability to effectively provide proper equipment for practices and games. Demonstrates an thorough understanding of logistical support required for game-days. Demonstrates an expertise knowledge of fitting and repair of athletic equipment, such as skates, helmets, uniforms, pads, gloves, shoes and performs in a manner that does not jeopardize the health and safety of athletes.

A Bachelor's degree is required.
A current valid driver's license, in accordance with the University's Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Use Policy is required.
The Athletic Equipment Assistant must be AEMA certified upon hire or obtain certification within two years.

This position is covered under the SEIU Local 200 - Facilities bargaining unit contract.
