Position Purpose:

The Summer Scholars Program Leader plays a pivotal role in the development, coordination, and successful execution of summer programs, including but not limited to Dartmouth Summer Scholars, an Academic and Residential Life program designed for Pre-college, College, and Alumni/Adult Learners. This individual will ensure academic alignment with Dartmouth College's educational goals, fostering diverse and enriching learning experiences. The Summer Scholar Programs Leader will lead the curriculum curation, faculty recruitment, and faculty onboarding processes for all levels of the program (Pre-college, College, and Alumni). This role requires close collaboration with professional partners overseeing the residential life experiences, ensuring seamless program delivery, managing escalations, and fostering an enriching experience for all Scholars. The onsite program Leader will be on-site throughout the Summer Scholars Programs' duration and be readily accessible for escalations. This individual will adhere to Dartmouth's commitment of diversity, equity, and inclusion.


Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp:

Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience


Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:



  • 5-7 year's of relevant experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Possess an understanding of effective in-person and residential adolescent programming.

  • Prioritize risk management and safety for both staff and students.

  • Adhere to privacy regulations, including FERPA, HIPAA, TITLE IX, and maintain strict confidentiality.

  • Show cultural sensitivity, awareness, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Collaborate with professional partners' administrative staff to train and mentor partner teams.

  • Thoroughly understand all program materials and policies before the program's start.

  • Be on campus during the Dartmouth Summer Scholars Program and be highly visible and available for risk management.

  • Lead, guide, and support students and staff through positive interpersonal interactions while fulfilling job responsibilities.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrate teamwork and independent work capabilities as needed.

  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within educational contexts.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Proven experience in curriculum development, program design, and faculty management for diverse participant groups.

  • Demonstrated ability to grow a summer program over time through multiple modalities (on-campus, hybrid, and remote programs).

  • Strong understanding of academic standards, pedagogical approaches, and curriculum design tailored to various educational levels.

  • Demonstrated capacity to collaborate across diverse teams and departments within an academic institution.

  • Familiarity with Dartmouth College's educational mission and values is advantageous.

  • Proficiency in project management and meeting deadlines.

Curriculum Curation:


  1. Collaborate with Dartmouth faculty members, subject matter experts, and program stakeholders to design and curate a compelling and rigorous curriculum for each participant group that aligns with Dartmouth's academic standards.

  1. Identify, engage, and recruit experienced and enthusiastic faculty members with expertise relevant to the program's themes and objectives for each participant group.

  2. Oversee the faculty selection process, including interviews and teaching portfolio review, considering the specific requirements and expectations for each group.

  3. Develop and conduct orientation sessions for selected faculty, ensuring their understanding of program goals, participant profiles, and logistical details.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:


  1. Collaborate with the Registrar's Office, Dartmouth departments, and relevant administrative units to coordinate scheduling, classroom assignments, and logistical support tailored to each participant group.

  2. Work closely with the Dartmouth Transformation Office's designated partner to ensure program alignment with broader institutional objectives and resource utilization.

  3. Act as a liaison with Dartmouth and facilitate interactions with partners.

  1. Contribute to the strategic planning and refinement of the Dartmouth Summer Scholars Program, taking into account the diverse needs of Pre-college, College, and Alumni/Adult participants.

  2. Provide input on program structure, extracurricular activities, and support services to enhance the holistic participant experience.

  3. Engage in regular program planning meetings, offering insights to inform decision-making processes.

  4. Grow revenue for the program over time introducing new audiences and modalities (eg. on-campus, hybrid, and remote).

  5. Manage resource issues, including training, mentorship, conflict resolution for staff, and logistical needs.

  1. Maintain clear and effective communication channels with faculty, program participants, administrative units, and stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging.

  2. Foster clear and consistent communication across residential, logistics, and academic teams.

  3. Maintain a detailed escalation management system to ensure immediate notification of pertinent issues to Dartmouth stakeholders.

  4. Submit a written progress report to the Dartmouth Transformation Office weekly that outlines program highlights, successes, and suggestions for future improvement.
