Position Summary:

Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine's Working Forward initiative. As such, this position's work location is designated as hybrid. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit's business needs. The Event Planner will plan, implement, and facilitate all aspects of events for the Offices of Medical Student Education (OMSE) at the School of Medicine with the aim of ensuring that event objectives, deliverables, and timelines are met and that they exceed expectations. Reporting to the Senior Director of Student Affairs, this position plays a critical role in providing hands-on, on-site logistics management for all OMSE events. This encompasses: 1) marquee OMSE events, including but not limited to: Orientation, White Coat Ceremony, Match Day, Hooding, Anatomy Memorial Service, First Look, Second Look, Student Research Day, Community Service Day, faculty gatherings, Convocation, Gold Humanism Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha induction ceremonies, and others; 2) monthly OMSE staff lunches, OMSE retreats, and other relevant OMSE events; 3) planning, reviewing funding applications, and collaborating with other OMSE staff to support student interest group programming. These responsibilities are handled autonomously with minimal supervision.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.


Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent computer skills including a working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database software applications. Working knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of event planning.


Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Preference for candidates planning events in a university setting. Working knowledge of production and public relations preferred. Excel, form creation and attendee tracking software, and email services preferred. Experience with email services such as Constant Contact, website platforms such as WordPress, and Adobe Creative Suite preferred. Prefer someone with experience with list management software such as databases.
