The Energy Services Department consists of five groups: (1) Cogeneration Systems (generates electricity and steam, and the distribution of steam throughout campus and UNC Hospitals); (2) Electric Distribution Systems (distribution of electrical power throughout campus); (3) Chilled Water Systems (producing and distributing chilled water throughout campus); (4) Water, Wastewater and Stormwater (for the use and conservation of water, as well as the proper management of stormwater and runoff); and (5) Administration (provides GIS, SCADA, coordination of operational information technologies, strategic planning, and management functions). Together these five groups provide safe, reliable, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective steam, electricity, chilled water, sanitary sewer, reclaimed water, and potable water utility services to the University's campus in a manner that moves UNC closer to the goals of Three Zeros Environmental Initiative.
This position functions as a part of Energy Services' Warehouses. Typically working within the Electrical Distribution Warehouse which is a utility-scale warehouse supporting the operations of Electric Distribution Systems (EDS) at 112 Airport Dr. This position requires working knowledge of the components and equipment used throughout the electric distribution system. This position requires contributing knowledge of inventory control, MAXIMO, a computerized work management system, specifically the purchasing and inventory modules and customer service. This position assists with ordering and maintaining adequate inventory levels to support EDS operations and purchases specific items on just-in-time delivery as required. Position receives, places and/or distributes orders and inventory in support of operational needs. Cycle count and return processes are supported as assigned by the Supervisor. This position ensures the warehouse and other storage areas are organized and free of dust and debris. The selected candidate for this position must have demonstrated experience with relevant business practices, policies, procedures, planning and distributing of supplies and/or materials, ability to determine the most appropriate action within procedural and operational guidelines. Work requires knowledge of work management and inventory tracking programs in order to maintain accurate records of merchandise received, inventoried, and issued. Ability to present ideas clearly, process, interpret and explain information.
High school diploma or equivalency.
Customer Service: Responds to customer needs and possesses general knowledge of product and resources. Follows customer services guidelines and demonstrates prompt and courteous services. Maintains relationship with community, faculty, staff, students and/or vendors.
Mathematics: Applies basic knowledge of adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. Basic knowledge in receiving and disbursing cash, inventory/merchandise. Maintains, verifies, and coordinates related records and disbursements. Notifies supervisor of errors or problems.
Communication-Oral: Listens to instructions and asks necessary questions to complete tasks. Communicates with fellow workers in a manner that allows work to be completed.
Sales and Promotions: Applies a basic knowledge of sources of supply, market factors, products, and commodities being purchased. Assists with transaction of selling and caring for merchandise.
Programs Knowledge/Records Administration: Performs a limited variety of recurring tasks and functions related to assigned processes and procedures. Uses established filing and data systems. Assists in the preparation of requisitions and purchase orders. Reviews information for completeness and accuracy.
Excellent customer service skills. Ability to learn our computerized inventory management system (MAXIMO). Ability to contact vendors, compare best pricing and purchase requested product. Ability to initiate and maintain effective working relationships with facility personnel, vendors suppliers and campus contacts. High school diploma or equivalency.
The environmental conditions range from controlled climate to dusty, hot, humid, and cold conditions. This position will be required to work in all conditions at various lengths of time depending on the need or operational requirements. Part of the inventory is located outdoors and in offsite locations. Physical effort required for the position includes, but not limited to, climbing ladders/stairs, working in confined spaces, being in contact with hazardous materials and lifting/moving up to 50 lbs. independently. PPE, including but not limited to safety glasses, safety shoes and hard hats must be worn at all times in posted areas.
