Job Description:

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Staff Nurse to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager.


Basic Function and Responsibility:


Assess patients' care needs from endocrinology perspective. Communicate with other members of the healthcare team regarding the care and planning for patients. This position will also be used to help with additional duties in MSC for the population served regarding triage, patient communication, and patient care.

Characteristics Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Incorporate the scientific, behavioral, and humanistic principles for application to clinical practice.
  • Adhere to departmental standards and practice guidelines.
  • Apply nursing theory to assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate patient responses.
  • Analyze initial and ongoing assessment data to determine diagnoses and patient outcomes.
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations
  • Develop patient care plan based on observations and assessments and recommend interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
  • Collaborate and integrate information from patient and family into multidisciplinary patient care plan and evaluate responses.
  • Clinic Prep (obtaining records prior to visit)
  • Completing confirmation calls and patient follow-up
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for patients and follow universal precautions.
  • Implement emergency care procedures when necessary.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and clinic policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment.
  • Responsible and accountable for the provision of care for patients.
  • Evaluate the quality of nursing care provided by other staff members.
  • Participate as a member of the health care team utilizing effective communication skills.
  • Participate in the development of unit, department and hospital policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Review staffing issues and recommend cost containment strategies.
  • Perform other projects or tasks as assigned.
  • Evaluate and document effectiveness of patient/family teaching.
  • Apply quality improvement principles to improve patient outcomes.
  • Maintain patient rights and confidentiality and serve as a patient advocate.
  • Responsible for adherence to legal, professional, and institutional requirements.
  • Responsible for maintenance and enhancement of clinical skills.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.

Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule:
40 hours per week, Day shifts, Clinic hours are 0700 - 1800, no weekends, no holidays

Location: UIHC Main Campus

Salary: $60,589 per year to commensurate

Required Qualifications:

  • An Associate's Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, or a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
  • Current license to practice in the state of Iowa by the time of hire
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skill
  • General computer skills are required

Desired Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing or Masters degree in nursing is highly desired
  • Nursing Certification in chosen specialty
  • Experience with Endocrinology disorders is highly desired.
  • Current 2 years of RN experience
  • Ambulatory experience
