The mission of the Department of Leadership and American Studies is to offer interdisciplinary learning opportunities in Leadership Studies and American Studies. The department is dedicated to the ideals of liberal learning, scholarship, leadership, and service. Our purpose is to ignite in our students a love of learning, inspire a sense of responsibility and civic duty, and help our students gain the knowledge and confidence to engage as responsible leaders and followers.


Purpose of the Position:

The Leadership and American Studies Department Secretary Senior serves as a primary point of contact for University faculty, administrative staff, students, and visitors. The Secretary Senior provides operational and administrative support for the Department and contributes to a cooperative, positive work environment.

  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively among university departments, staff, students, and faculty

  • Ability to create/prepare and organize essential documents on behalf of the department

  • Ability to supervise student interns

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Ability to operate a wide range of office equipment

  • Knowledge of budgets or purchasing

  • Event organization skills

  • Skills in the use of social media for professional purposes

  • Understanding of HTML and website maintenance

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software to include Microsoft Office, Google Suite Applications, DocuSign, etc.


Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required :


Education:


  • High school diploma or experience/education that equates to a high school diploma



Experience:

  • Experience with budgets or purchasing

  • Experience performing administrative office work.

  • Associate's Degree or higher



Experience:

  • Experience as a secretary in an academic office

  • Experience with the state purchasing system eVA

  • Experience with G-Suite or other shared file systems

  • Experience creating brochures, fliers, programs, and/or certificates

  • Demonstrated experience with event and conference planning.

  • Experience using word processing and spreadsheet software.

  • Experience using DocuSign.


Salary Information:

Starting at $39,923 Commensurate with Education and Experience
