Participates in the design and execution of laboratory, greenhouse, nursery, and field research focused on pathogens of ornamental crops; maintains plant pathogen culture collections for use in research, collaboration, and industry
projects; conducts plant sampling and site maintenance in greenhouse, nursery and field research plots; assists graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in the design and implementation of their research projects; provides
expertise in growing plants and pathogens for research, experimental design, and class instruction based on comprehensive review of applicable literature and methodology; coordinates and conducts efficacy screening of plant
protection products for management of pathogens of ornamental crops in greenhouse, nursery, and field trials, including product application, pathogen inoculation, and disease evaluation; prepares comprehensive reports on
system studies including statistical analysis of research data; reports progress and resultant findings to collaborators and sponsoring agencies; assists in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at conferences and workshops; organizes data for the preparation of research proposals; hires, supervises, and trains student workers; trains all laboratory personnel in the use of specialized laboratory equipment and safety standards; orders and maintains biological and chemical laboratory supplies; cleans and maintains laboratory space and equipment; maintains records of equipment maintenance repairs and certifications; coordinates yearly certification of laboratory space and equipment.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in plant pathology or related field required. 1-3 years of relevant experience required.
Desired Experience:
M.S. in Plant Pathology or related field desired. Minimum three years of laboratory experience desired. Experience working with ornamental crops desired.
