Position Summary:
The Postdoctoral Fellow position focuses on research on neurodegenerative diseases, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease. The work investigates molecular pathways of degeneration and biomarkers, as well as pharmacological approaches to neuroprotection in cellular and animal models.
The work will include:
Biochemical Analyses: Investigating molecular pathways and biomarkers.
Cell Culture and Imaging: Utilizing cell and tissue imaging techniques to study mechanisms of neuronal dysfunction.
In Vivo Studies: Conducting research using mouse models to explore mechanisms of disease progression.
Experimental Procedures: Cell culture and analysis of metabolic and functional state; cell imaging; iPSC-derived brain cells; western blots; immunocytochemistry; immunohistochemistry; recombinant protein production and fractionation; gene expression/KD/KO. In vivo: performing treatments, biofluid sampling, behavioral/motor testing, euthanasia.
The Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute at Florida Atlantic University seeks scholars who are committed to supporting the learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds and to thoughtfully engaging all communities in higher education. Florida Atlantic University embodies a culture of strategic and collaborative community engagement that results in mutual benefit to the institution and the various internal and external communities that it serves.
Minimum Qualifications:PhD in Biological Sciences
Desired technical skills include: *Cell culture (cell lines, iPSCs, cell differentiation), analysis of metabolic and functional state as well as mitochondrial function, cell imaging by fluorescence and confocal microscopy. *Biochemistry, protein analyzes (western blots, ELISA), expression of recombinant protein, preparation of samples for proteomic analysis. *Assay development in microtiter plate format. *Transient and stable genetic modifications (vector/transfection based, CRISP-R), DNA/RNA analyzes. *In vivo: mouse handling, biofluid sampling, behavioral and motor testing, euthanasia, histology.
