POSITION OVERVIEW:



The Crisis Family Advocate will be available to families of new admissions for an orientation to the Children's Mobile Crisis Team program. The orientation will be from the perspective of the family to include an overview of the program. This overview may include milieu treatment structure, treatment modalities, expectations of the family in treatment, and discharge planning.



KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to:




  • Outreach to families in crisis in the community within 2 hours of receiving the referral. With the help of the Social Worker Crisis Family Advocates help to de-escalate the child in crisis as well as helping families manage emotional reactions to child's crisis.



  • Work with parents/caregivers to develop effective techniques to de-escalate crises in the home.



  • Attend program, team and/or community-based service provider meetings to represent the family's voice in evaluating service delivery. Attend to other program operation issues when agenda items pertain to their role.



  • In coordination with the Clinical Director, Administrative Supervisor and team social worker, assist families toward a successful discharge within 6 to 8 weeks of family beginning the CMCT Program. This may include future involvement with varied community resources to facilitate a successful discharge.



  • Assist with the Performance Improvement initiatives, as appropriate.

  • Collaborate with the Administrative Supervisor and/or Clinical Director.

  • Complete all paperwork pertaining to service goals, objectives and discharge criteria.

  • Other duties as assigned.




CORE COMPETENCIES for the position include:


  • Experience in parenting a child or adolescent with a serious emotional disturbance.

  • Ability to document clinical assessments, plans and interventions

  • Ability to work with diverse social, cultural, and economic groups.

  • Good communication and listening skills.

  • Ability to be assertive.




EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIRED:




HS Diploma/HSE. All Crisis Family Advocates are required to complete the Family Development Credential (FDC) within a year of hire.




EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/LANGUAGE PREFERENCE:



  • Minimum one year experience advocating in the mental health and/or education systems preferred

  • Proficient Reading and Writing English

  • Pay Differential for bi-lingual Crisis Family Advocates

  • Valid Driver's License Required




COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED:



  • Working knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel




WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL EFFORT



  • To perform the essential functions of this job the candidate must be able to travel within New York City carrying equipment such as a notebook, forms, laptop, mobile hotspot and cell phone weighing up to approximately 10 pounds.

  • Risks/hazards associated with the position are those which may be encountered travelling around New York City and interfacing with clients experiencing an acute mental health crisis or serious emotional disturbance.

  • Position is currently hybrid (1 day p/week in office) but can become 100% in person based on program need.
