BSD BIS - Audio Visual Support Service



About the Department

Biological Sciences Division, Information Services (BSDIS) is the information technology group responsible for supporting the technology needs of the BSD. Device Support Services is a section of BSDIS that supports end user computing devices in administrative, clinical, and research departments within the BSD. We are currently expanding our services to include Audio-Visual support.



Job Summary

The job conducts a range of technical processes and procedures in the planning, development and production of audio-visual productions. Works closely with staff and faculty within a unit. Assembles, operates, and maintains
audio-visual equipment for meetings, classrooms, etc.


Under general supervision, this position provides audio-visual support to BSD auditoriums, conference rooms, and classrooms across several BSD buildings. May interact with University IT (IT Services) and/or University of Chicago Hospital IT (UCM IT) to restore service and/or identify and correct core problems. Will work independently within assigned area while also working collaboratively within a team of other technicians.



Responsibilities



  • Provide support to BSD auditoriums, conference rooms, and classrooms across several BSD buildings.


  • Guide end users through troubleshooting procedures.


  • Perform upgrades to hardware and software.


  • Log work in ticketing system (ServiceNow).


  • Intake work via phone, email, ticketing system.


  • Share after hours coverage with other tech(s) for evening and weekend events.


  • Recognizes the importance of computer and data security and will work with faculty and staff on adhering to the security standards of the organization.


  • Researches and analyzes products and systems available in the marketplace and makes recommendations to management.


  • Applies moderate/high levels of experience and skills to support the planning, development and execution of audio-visual productions with moderate supervision.


  • Researches, develops, installs, operates and troubleshoots audio-visual systems, such as video conferencing, digital media and desktop and network-based technologies.


  • Provides projection services and presentation support for academic and public events within standard operating procedures.


  • May provide informal mentorship to students in audio-video production. May provide informal training to other technicians and student staff.


  • Performs other related work as needed.





Minimum Qualifications




Education:

Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).



Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

  • Extron experience is a plus.
