Vaco is actively seeking a Sr SQL Server Database Administrator. This role is responsible for administrating and monitoring enterprise class database technologies. This individual will be responsible for maintaining existing databases, adding new databases, troubleshoot and fix PROD and non-PROD issues and support internal and external projects and understanding the goals/objectives of those teams. Their key responsibilities include:
Database Maintenance and Monitoring: Monitoring database performance, ensuring that databases are available and running smoothly. This includes checking for errors, performing backups, and managing storage capacity.
Backup and Recovery: Implementing and managing backup strategies to ensure data can be restored in case of failure or corruption. This includes regularly testing backups to verify their integrity.
Security Management: Assisting in maintaining database security by managing user accounts, permissions, and roles. Ensuring that data is protected from unauthorized access or breaches.
Performance Tuning: Monitoring and identifying performance issues, such as slow-running queries or bottlenecks. Learning and applying basic performance tuning techniques to optimize database operations.
Database Deployment: Assisting in the deployment of new databases, updates, or changes to existing databases. This may involve creating scripts, setting up environments, or applying patches and updates.
Documentation: Keeping detailed documentation of database configurations, changes, and procedures. This includes maintaining records of backups, security changes, and performance tuning activities.
Troubleshooting: Responding to database-related issues and helping to diagnose and resolve them promptly. This may involve working closely with other IT staff or developers to identify and fix problems.
Learning and Development: Continuously developing their skills and knowledge of SQL Server, staying up to date with new features, best practices, and emerging technologies in database administration.
Collaboration: Working with other members of the IT team, including DBAs, developers, and network administrators, to ensure that databases are properly integrated and support the needs of the business.
Expected Skills
5+ years experience as a Microsoft SQL DBA.
Experience with SQL Server running in an Azure environment.
Hands-on experience with managing MS SQL performance and availability 24x7.
Experience with configuring monitoring and alerting for MS SQL databases.
Hands-on experience with MS SQL upgrades and patching.
Knowledge of security best practices including instance/database security, encryption, and service specific account permissions.
Knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery options.
Provide strategic SQL Server solutions.
Knowledge of application change management.
