Job Summary: As a Birth Mother Social Worker, you will play a crucial role in providing support, guidance, and advocacy to birth mothers before, during, and after the adoption process. You will ensure that birth mothers receive comprehensive services to address their emotional, psychological, and practical needs, while facilitating a positive adoption experience for all parties involved.
Responsibilities:
Assessment and Counseling:
Conduct initial assessments of birth mothers to understand their unique circumstances, emotional state, and support needs.
Provide individual emotional support throughout the decision-making process and post-placement period.
Education and Guidance:
Educate birth mothers about their rights, options, and the adoption process, ensuring informed decision-making.
Offer guidance on available resources, including financial assistance, medical care, legal rights, and community support.
Case Management:
Develop and implement individualized care plans for birth mothers, addressing their immediate and long-term needs.
Coordinate with the adoption agency, healthcare providers, legal professionals, and other stakeholders to facilitate seamless services.
Advocacy and Support:
Advocate for birth mothers' rights and interests within the adoption process and broader community settings.
Empower birth mothers to voice their preferences and concerns while navigating adoption-related decisions.
Documentation and Compliance:
Maintain accurate records and documentation of all interactions, assessments, and service plans in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
Ensure adherence to adoption laws, regulations, and agency policies throughout the process.
Collaboration and Networking:
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including social workers, psychologists, healthcare professionals, and adoption agencies, to provide comprehensive care.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Social Work or a related field (MSW preferred).
State licensure or certification as required by regulatory agencies.
Proven experience in social work, preferably in adoption services or maternal health.
Strong understanding of ethical standards, and trauma-informed care practices.
Excellent communication, counseling, and crisis intervention skills.
Compassionate, non-judgmental approach to supporting birth mothers during emotionally challenging times.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage caseload effectively.
