You are a passionate and experienced Product Designer with a strong track record of creating user-centered interfaces for complex applications. You have a keen eye for visualizing complex data and are fascinated by the process of transforming raw outputs into meaningful, actionable insights. Your ability to understand user needs, coupled with your technical design skills, allows you to deliver innovative solutions that meet evolving business requirements. You recognize that raw ML outputs are just data - the real value comes from smart analysis and representation.

What We're Looking For:

We are seeking a Product Designer with 3+ years of hands-on experience to play a crucial role in shaping the user experience of our client's innovative platform. The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in user research, interaction design, and visual design, with a particular focus on understanding and representing complex data. You will be comfortable creating interfaces that allow users to navigate and interact with multiple data sources and layers, and you will excel at presenting that information in an intuitive and understandable way. You will collaborate with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders, ensuring that design solutions are aligned with business goals and user needs. Your responsibilities will include creating user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs, as well as contributing to the development of design systems and best practices, with a strong emphasis on analytics and data visualization.

As a Product Designer, you will be responsible for designing user-friendly interfaces for applications powered by complex machine learning pipelines. You'll work closely with engineers to transform technical requirements into intuitive user experiences, using a range of design tools and methodologies. You'll also be expected to proactively identify design opportunities and contribute to the continuous improvement of the product. This role involves both strategic design thinking and hands-on execution with a special consideration for the visualization and interpretation of data.

What You Have:
  • 3+ years of proven experience in UI/UX or product design.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing your design process and projects, with examples of data visualization or complex data representation being a plus.
  • Extensive experience with design and prototyping tools such as Figma.
  • Solid understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with user research techniques and the ability to translate findings into design improvements.
  • Experience working closely with engineers to implement designs, and technical skills like HTML, CSS or javascript are considered an asset.
  • A collaborative mindset and excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working in an agile environment.
  • Proven ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • A bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction, or a related field (preferred).
  • A high degree of curiosity, self-motivation, and a willingness to learn and grow.
  • Experience working with large datasets and understanding complex data relationships is also a plus.

30-60-90 Day Plan

First 30 Days:
  • Onboarding and Learning: Focus on understanding our company culture, product offerings, and team dynamics.
  • Product Deep Dive: Familiarize yourself with our existing product suite, user personas, and key use cases, paying special attention to the data structures they rely on.
  • Meet and Greet: Build relationships with team members across engineering, product, customer success, and sales.
  • Initial Projects: Start working on smaller design tasks to understand our processes and tooling, perhaps exploring ways to visualize existing datasets.

30-60 Days:
  • Hands-On Design: Contribute actively to ongoing product development cycles, including user research, user flows, and wireframing, with a focus on how users interact with complex data.
  • Collaborate and Iterate: Work closely with engineers and product managers to define and refine design solutions, particularly where data visualization is critical.
  • UX Research and Testing: Participate in user interviews and usability testing sessions, contributing to key learnings, and observing how users are interpreting data presentations.
  • Design System Familiarization: Become proficient in using and contributing to our internal design standards and guidelines, with a focus on relevant data visualization components.

60-90 Days:
  • Lead Design Initiatives: Take ownership of specific design projects from concept to high-fidelity prototypes, with a focus on presenting data effectively.
  • Strategic Contributions: Provide design insights that align with strategic business goals and market trends, particularly in terms of data interpretation and user-driven analytics.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Demonstrate effectiveness in cross-functional teams, driving design solutions, and ensuring data integrity and usability.
  • Continuous Improvement: Actively look for opportunities to improve the design process and user experience based on feedback and data, especially as it relates to how users understand and act on complex data insights.
