Who WE Need
In this role, the Color Technologist will collaborate with both Quality Control (QC) and Research & Development (R&D) teams to ensure the ongoing optimization and precision of color measurement, matching, and data management processes. Responsibilities will include managing spectrophotometer calibrations, analyzing and enhancing color matching databases, and coordinating with suppliers for equipment maintenance. The Color Technologist will also be responsible for ensuring that all color data is accurately recorded and stored in compliance with ISO 9001 standards.
Additionally, the Color Technologist will provide training to internal teams on plastics color matching techniques, as well as the use of instrument software and associated procedures. This position involves a high level of cross-departmental collaboration and visibility and includes project work to support the plastics color laboratory, as required.
Education:
A two- or four-year degree, preferably in science.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
5 years of professional color experience in a technical role
Strong background in color theory and the ability to explain color concepts
Proficiency with color and appearance measurement instrumentation
Excellent communication and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to work across departments
Familiarity with a variety of computer software (Excel, SQL, SyBase or MS Access)
Good analytical and troubleshooting skills
What YOU Can Do For Us
Responsibilities:
Calibrate color measurement instrumentation, perform minor repairs, and coordinate service
Work across departments and locations to ensure continuity and consistency of color and appearance measurements
Support customers by presenting fundamentals of color science and measurement
Stay current with latest technology on appearance measuring equipment and color imaging software. Present finding to management
Recommend technology upgrades and evaluations
Manage color matching databases
Prepare and maintain sample preparation guidelines
Measure, store and maintain physical and electronic color exhibits for database preparation
Build new Data bases as required
Create templates and forms to improve QC and R&D efficiency
Service light booths and upgrade as needed
Recommend best practices for data storage, reporting and retention in compliance with ISO 9001
Train internal personnel on plastics color matching, correction techniques and software
Complete projects, as needed, to support the thermoplastics lab
Other duties as assigned
