Description:

Staff Scientist I

The Role:

Are you passionate about vaccines, antibodies, and therapeutics for preventing and treating infectious diseases or autoimmune syndromes? Would you enjoy applying cutting-edge genetic and proteomic techniques to explore immune responses and advance our understanding of antibody function and human immunology?

The Ippolito Lab is seeking a Staff Scientist I to join its research team and contribute to expanding a robust pipeline of molecular and proteomic techniques for high-throughput profiling of antibody repertoires in human immunity. This position provides a unique opportunity to develop expertise at the intersection of fundamental immunology and computational science. Your efforts will focus on research with significant potential for discoveries in therapeutic and vaccine development. Current research areas include:

  • Influenza and SARS-CoV-2 viral pathogens (BSL-2 and BSL-3 containment)
  • Malarial parasites and vaccinology
  • Autoimmune diseases

You will work within the Disease Intervention & Prevention unit at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute, the only private, nonprofit infectious disease research facility offering both high-containment research capabilities (BSL-3 & BSL-4) and a National Primate Research Center.

Primary Role:

  • Design and conduct independent scientific research.
  • Analyze molecular data associated with vaccination and antibody responses.
  • Stay current with the latest literature and actively participate in group meetings to discuss and share new findings.
  • Interact with graduate students and post-docs in a mentoring capacity.
  • Willingness to work in teams, within the Disease Intervention & Prevention and with national and international collaborators.
  • Communicate your research results to the scientific community through publications in journals and presentations at scientific conferences.
  • Assist in the preparation and writing of grant or contract applications and research publications to support the incumbent as well as to foster one's own independent research program in human immunology.

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • A Ph.D. degree in Microbiology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Virology, or Immunology.
  • Track record of scientific publications.
  • 4+ years as a postdoctoral scientist.
  • 2+ years as an independent research or staff scientist.
  • Expertise testing immune antibodies in animal models (e.g., xenograft and NSG mice).
  • Experience drafting and submitting new IACUC protocols, amendments, and progress reports.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of IRB regulations and guidelines, with completed IRB training.
  • Familiarity with immunology techniques, cell culture, protein purification, and general knowledge of antibody repertoire analysis and monoclonal antibody characterization.

How to Apply?

To be considered for the position you must provide two documents when applying to this job ad:

  • Résumé or CV
