Manager, Deal Finance



Location: Boston Seaport, MA



Introduction to role


In recent years, AstraZeneca has been the leading dealmaker by overall volume within global large pharma. Deal Finance leads the financial aspects of Business Development and M&A projects within AstraZeneca, including valuation, financial analysis, and deal structuring. Additionally, Deal Finance provides dedicated support in the negotiation and execution of transactions.


We have an exciting and rare new opportunity to work closely with a Finance Deal Director and Head of Deal Finance to help develop reasons for in/out licensing deals, research collaborations and partnerships, product acquisitions/disposals, divestments, and additional business development projects.


This role would ideally suit a candidate looking for their first role outside of a practice firm or someone looking to broaden their finance business partnering skills within the Pharma Business Development / Corporate Finance space.



Accountabilities




  • Support Deal Finance team in all aspects of deal making within AstraZeneca (AZ)






  • Ensure that the quantitative aspect of a transaction opportunity (including reason, valuation, due diligence findings) are quality assured and that all key issues/sensitivities/risks are evaluated and accurately reflected.






  • Build complex, consistent, and accurate statistical valuation models.






  • Identify relationships and statistical trends in pharmaceutical data to validate commercial opportunities.






  • Accurately reflect the financial statement, tax, and treasury implications of potential transactions within briefing materials, working with internal AZ experts.






  • Provide input into financial terms in NBOs and contracts.






  • Present findings, alongside a senior Deal Finance colleague, to AZ senior management and other internal decision-making bodies.





Essential Skills/Experience




  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related required; quantitative & financial qualification (MBA, CIMA, ACA, CFA or equivalent) preferred






  • 3-5 years of experience within corporate finance, deal finance, investment banking or related






  • Experience in statistical evaluation techniques and financial modelling.






  • Good MS Excel (especially financial modelling) and PowerPoint skills






  • Good understanding of cash vs. profit






  • Strong understanding of value-based cashflow metrics and their relevance in business evaluation






  • Analytical thinking, and ability to collate and analyze relevant statistical data to identify key drivers of value and risk






  • Commitment to high quality standards, attention to detail and motivation to deliver results within tight deadlines.






  • Confident and clear presenter, who can communicate financial and strategic recommendations in a concise and impactful manner.






  • Aptitude for working in a fast-paced environment and able to effectively manage multiple projects with changing priorities and deadlines.






  • Keen interest in business development and the wider pharmaceutical industry
