Summary of Duties

The Clinical Coordinator will be the clinical resource person for the Surgical Technology students and will be responsible for organization, administration, continuous review, planning development, clinical and didactic instruction and general effectiveness of clinical experiences for students enrolled in the Surgical Technology program. The Clinical Coordinator will also collaborate with the contracted facilities including: Clinical Managers, the Schedule Coordinator and/or the Educational Coordinator for the Operating Room. The Clinical coordinator will possess good interpersonal skills in relating to students, clinical personnel and physicians.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Provide effective instruction to students online and/or in the classroom by preparing for each learning experience, providing supplemental materials to enhance textbooks and lessons, using effective evaluation methods to evaluate student performance.

  • Teach Surgical Technology and Sterile Processing courses with a typical load of 20 contact hours per week which may include day, evening, and/or weekend classes. Teaching assignments may include didactic, distance education, and laboratory instruction. Five hours of release per week will be dedicated to clinical coordination activities of the Surgical Technology and Sterile Processing programs.

  • Provide 10 office hours per week, 7 in person and 3 virtually for student advising, curriculum development, course development/delivery, textbook review/selection, assessment activities, college/program meetings, etc.

  • Provide 10 hours of professional and community service. Includes attending college and program meetings, participation in professional development, mentoring adjunct instructors, serving on campus committees, and community activities.

  • Support curriculum development by participating in the creation and evaluation of courses, curriculum, and programs, participating in program advisory committees, attending departmental meetings, and serving as backup for other faculty members.

  • Maintain accurate records such as attendance, grades, information for accreditation, and other important data and submit reports according to college and program policies.

  • Provide clinical arrangements for each student prior to entering the clinical setting. Provide systematic observations and objective judgments in regards to student performance and gives each student timely feedback about his/her performance, providing suggestions for improvement. Provides feedback to the program about current department/hospital policies or changes in practice in the field and makes suggestions for program modifications or improvement.

  • Maintain appropriate professional certifications and licenses as applicable.

  • Actively engage in student success and completion initiatives within a comprehensive student support design.

  • Foster a cohesive, team-oriented environment with all Surgical Technology faculty and staff.

  • Perform other similar duties as required.

  • Strong attention to details and a positive professional attitude.

  • Must be capable of teaching both the clinical and didactic aspects of the program.

  • Must have the knowledge and ability to judge student competence.
  • Education & Certifications


    Required:


  • Possess a minimum of an Associate Degree.

  • Must be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.

  • Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCAA).

  • Have a minimum of three years of documented experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five year.
