Job Summary: The Lead Endoscopy Technician IV function as an expert technical resource in the endoscopy unit. They are confident and independent in all aspects of the endoscopy unit. They have an in-depth knowledge of GI and assists the nurses and physicians in providing care for the endoscopy patient. They have completed competencies for all basic GI procedures as well as advanced procedures (when applicable at site) and are competent in all aspects of scope reprocessing. The Technician also supports the area with duties that include but are not limited to preparation of the procedure room and sterile field to ensure a safe patient care environment including gathering all required instruments and supplies and serving as an endoscopy procedure assistant. The job also includes transportation of patients and equipment, stocking/maintaining supplies, care and maintenance of endoscopes and their accessories contributing to the daily functions of the unit. Exhibits a higher level of Collaboration with all members of the Wellstar health care team. Has a strong understand of infection control in the GI setting. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Patient Care 1. Functions as an expert clinical resource 2. Expert in general endoscopy procedures as well as ERCP and/or EUS as applicable. Expert in equipment and supplies including cleaning endoscopes and accessories. 3. Fulfills all essential functions of the GI Lab Technician. Functions in all areas of the Endoscopy lab. 4. Prepares for scheduled, emergent, urgent and add on endoscopic procedures by ensuring necessary equipment, instruments and supplies are ready and set up for use. Has the skill to expedite and organize the preparation for unexpected events, giving direction and support to the less experienced team members. 5. Functions independently within scope of position. Anticipates needs of physician and RN during procedures; and anticipates needs of department. 6. Serves as expert clinical resource person for less experienced staff and is the preferred technician for general GI procedures. 7. Must be proficient to operate all equipment in GI, and provide technical assistance during procedures by trouble shooting equipment as needed, manipulating various pieces of equipment and the endoscope as directed by the physician. 8. Required to take emergency call after normal operating hours and weekends rotation per department needs (specific to facility of employment). 9. Serves as a resource to preceptors as well as a preceptor to new employees and a resource for other less experienced team members. 10. Demonstrates in depth knowledge of infection control principles and standards. Takes a proactive role in QI monitoring and improvement plans. Other 1. Assists with the planning of daily assignments and distribution of work to promote department efficiency. 3. Assists in the trial and evaluation of new equipment and supplies. 4. Maintains confidentiality. 6. Supports evidence-based practice and ethical accountability. 7. Maintains current BLS certification. 8. Required Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED Required
