We are seeking an experienced Database Operations Manager to lead and oversee a team responsible for the reliable operation of mission-critical production database environments. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of hands-on experience in monitoring, triaging, and resolving complex database issues and a proven track record in managing operations teams. This role involves managing both onshore and offshore team members and ensuring the seamless support of L1/L2 database operations for SQL Server, Sybase, and Oracle systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Management:
Lead and manage a team of database support professionals across onshore and offshore locations.
Coordinate on-call rotations to ensure 24/7 support coverage.
Develop and mentor team members, driving operational excellence and professional growth.
Database Operations:
Monitor, triage, and resolve mission-critical production database issues.
Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of database environments.
Manage database incident resolution, escalating issues as necessary while maintaining service level agreements (SLAs).
Operational Maturity:
Drive operational process improvements and standardization across the database team.
Develop and maintain documentation, including runbooks, operational guides, and escalation procedures.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
Incident and Outage Management:
Serve as the point of contact during major outages and escalated incidents.
Ensure resource availability during high-impact issues and facilitate timely resolution.
Conduct post-incident reviews to identify root causes and drive preventive measures.
Technical Expertise:
Provide guidance and hands-on expertise in database technologies, particularly SQL Server, Sybase, and Oracle (experience with at least two is required).
Stay updated on emerging database technologies and trends to enhance operational capabilities.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of experience supporting database operations in an enterprise production environment.
Hands-on expertise in at least two of the following: SQL Server, Sybase, and Oracle.
Experience managing database operations teams, including onshore and offshore resources.
Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving complex database issues.
Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage priorities and stakeholders.
Proven ability to manage incidents, escalations, and outages in a high-pressure environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with ITIL or other IT service management frameworks.
Experience with automation and monitoring tools for database environments.
Knowledge of cloud database platforms or migrations is a plus.
