The Senior Site Safety & Health Specialist is responsible for leading and implementing project-specific safety policies and procedures while providing professional Safety & Health leadership to the project management team in a heavy construction environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer Safety & Health programs on field construction projects to ensure operations are executed as planned and conducted safely.
Manage the Site Safety & Health program deliverables as defined by the Corporate Safety & Health Department of our client, a top ENR firm, while addressing site-specific safety and health compliance questions or concerns in a timely manner.
Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
Oversee Safety & Health programs to achieve and maintain the company's goal of zero safety incidents.
Conduct regular health and safety performance reviews and assessments, ensuring documentation verifies compliance with Corporate and regulatory requirements.
Address and resolve actions causing work stoppage when circumstances pose immediate danger to life and health on a project. Communicate work stoppage issues to the project management team and collaborate to develop preventative practices.
Consult with site personnel on Safety & Health issues, recommending best practices as appropriate.
Evaluate Safety & Health risks and opportunities at the project site prior to work commencement, implementing corrective actions based on policies and procedures.
Collaborate directly with the client's Safety & Health Department to address site-specific issues, coordinate preventative measures, and build working relationships with project staff and subcontractor safety representatives to maintain compliance.
Conduct project Safety & Health walk-through assessments, review findings with relevant parties, document items requiring immediate correction, and ensure timely resolution.
Draft memos and assist site management in correspondence to promote safety awareness, project safety goals, and a safe, productive work environment.
Lead, conduct, validate, and document Safety & Health training relevant to the work being conducted.
Review near-miss incidents, property damage, environmental incidents, and accident investigation reports. Recommend countermeasures as needed.
Advise Corporate Safety & Health on project challenges, objectives, and progress, ensuring clear communication.
Complete daily Field Safety & Health Report forms, maintain audit-ready safety records, and submit required documentation to Corporate Safety & Health.
Travel to various project site locations as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Comply with all company policies and standards.
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or Construction Management, with 7 years of experience in construction safety, general industry safety, or construction management. OR
Associate's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or Construction Management, with 9 years of experience in construction safety, general industry safety, or construction management. OR
High School Diploma/GED with 11 years of experience in construction safety, general industry safety, or construction management.
Technical Knowledge:
Comprehensive understanding of OSHA Construction and General Industry regulations.
Familiarity with American National Standards Institute (ANSI), National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH), Army Corps of Engineers (CoE) Engineer Manual 385-1, and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Other Requirements:
Flexibility to work various schedules at project site locations.
Compliance with the company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy to qualify for and maintain vehicle driving privileges.
Valid driver's license.
Completion of OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour Construction Outreach Safety Training Course.
